Sheldon Cooper is not the most overly affectionate or emotional man on The Big Bang Theory (that award would go to Raj). He's a man of great intellect but focuses his time on the seriousness of science and man-kind than on romance or trivial day-to-day matters.
As Sheldon transformed over the show's 12 seasons, the women in his life were able to soften Sheldon's hardened exterior. He was able to understand basic emotions and facial reactions that he never could before. He also became more honest with his feelings. He began appreciating and thanking those close to him when the situation called for it, proving that Sheldon Cooper has an emotional side to him.
"I Used To Hate These Hugs. Now They're Just Extremely Irritating"
Sheldon was never a fan of his birthday but Amy and Penny tried changing that. With his friends present, Amy threw Sheldon a birthday party that was completely tailored to him. The sight of his loved ones was overwhelming for Sheldon and he ran into the bathroom to catch his breath. After Penny calmed him down, he was able to enjoy the party.
Penny knew Sheldon hated hugs but hugged him close for his big day. Instead of pushing her away or going limp, Sheldon hugged her close and admitted to liking the hugs more than he thought.
"I Don't Want To Be The Reason You Don't Win A Nobel." "You're The Only Reason I Deserve One."
Without Amy Farrah Fowler, Sheldon Cooper wouldn't have won a Nobel Prize. However, when two Fermi-Lab scientists prove Amy and Sheldon's theory, there were one too many scientists to be awarded the Nobel.
As much as Amy deserved the Nobel Prize, she was willing to give up her spot so that Sheldon could be nominated. Lovingly, Sheldon told her he could have done what he did without her help.
"Amy Farrah Fowler, Will You Share This Toothbrush Holder With Me?"
Amy and Sheldon didn't start out on the best foot when they first moved in together. It was the first time either of them had lived with a partner and both of them were nervous.
They had to get to know each other in a new space. After a few days of arguing, the two of them finally found peace. Sheldon made a truce and said poetry to Amy's ears: "Amy Farrah Fowler, will you share this toothbrush holder with me?"
"You're Wise And You Smell Like Books"
According to Sheldon, Amy is the "whole package" because she's both wise and smells like books. It's moments like this that prove how adorable Sheldon and Amy are.
They may have started off slow compared to the other couples on the show, but Sheldon and Amy quickly became one of the strongest couples in the series.
"You And I Have Always Had Our Ups And Downs But I've Always Considered You My Family"
Sheldon wasn't able to go to Leonard and Penny's first wedding in Las Vegas but things were very different the second time away. With all of their friends and family around, Sheldon gave a touching speech about how much Leonard meant to him.
After referring to Leonard as his family, Sheldon continued saying "I don't always show it but you are of great importance to me. Both of you." It was a big moment for Leonard, Penny, and Sheldon.
"When I Lost My Own Father, I Didn't Have Any Friends To Help Me Through It. You Do."
It was devastating when Howard's mother died. He found out over the phone while at the comic book store, and the only good thing about the situation is that he was surrounded by his wife and closest friends.
Howard slunk into a chair deep in shock and Sheldon asked the group if he was able to say something. Leonard and Penny were nervous about what he was going to say but his words were incredibly therapeutic and heartfelt.
"I Have Been Encouraged, Sustained, Inspired And Tolerated Not Only By My Wife, But By The Greatest Group Of Friends Anyone Ever Had."
The moment that Sheldon Cooper won a Nobel Prize with the help of his wife was what dreams were made of on The Big Bang Theory. Winning a Nobel was all that Sheldon wanted throughout the series.
Seeing him win was emotional for everyone involved (including the viewers). And while the show set up Sheldon's speech to be selfish, long, and boring, he switched it up and gave a gorgeous speech from the heart.
"But In This Moment, I Have No Words. I Guess I'm Overwhelmed By You. In A Good Way."
It didn't get more emotional than Sheldon and Amy's wedding. It was a long time coming and viewers couldn't be happier for the quirky couple. Among Howard and Leonard's weddings, Sheldon's vows were the most emotional.
It's not often that viewers hear his feelings for Amy, and hearing them at the altar was beautiful. He was "overwhelmed" by her and promised to spend his entire life proving his love for her. It was everything Amy Farrah Fowler wanted to hear from Sheldon in the course of their relationship.
"And Like That Earworm, I Can't Get You Out Of My Heart. So What I'm Trying To Say Is You're My Heartworm."
When Sheldon didn't initially take Amy back when she was ready to date again, he changed his mind after getting a song stuck in his head. He then realized that the song in his head was about Amy and that they belonged together.
As he knocked on her door, he compared the song to an earworm and later, heartworm. For Sheldon, that was music to Amy's ears. The two were back together from that point on.
"I Excell At Many Things. But Getting Over You Wasn't One Of Them."
It was gut-wrenching when Sheldon and Amy broke up. Amy had every right to leave a relationship that wasn't fulfilling her but as soon as viewers saw that Sheldon already had an engagement ring picked out for her, they knew that Sheldon was far more serious about the relationship than she realized.
When the two exes became friends again, Amy realized she hated her life without Sheldon and tried getting him back. Sheldon, however, was still grief-stricken and wasn't ready.
