A The Big Bang Theory reunion may not happen says Mayim Bialik. Playing Amy Fowler in the CBS sitcom, the actress only became a series regular in season 4 alongside Melissa Rauch, who played Bernadette Rostenkowski. That said, she became an integral part of the story, particularly with regard to Sheldon Cooper's (Jim Parsons) arc as she ultimately married the notoriously difficult physicist.
Running for 12 seasons, The Big Bang Theory followed the lives of seven friends based in Pasadena - the majority of them deemed social outcasts. Talks for a season 13 were ongoing until it was announced that season 12 was going to be its last with Parsons' decision to exit the series. The one-hour special finale was full of emotional moments that mostly satisfied its loyal viewers despite a rather uneven full season. Despite bowing out of the airwaves more than a year ago already, it remains to be popular, with its fanbase continuously growing thanks to its availability via streaming.
It may not have been that long since The Big Bang Theory ended, but talks of a reunion show are already going around. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like it's happening - at least anytime soon. Not just because the cast members are currently busy with their respective endeavors, but due to some legal constraints as Bialik recently told Metro.
‘This aspect of the industry is that everyone does have other jobs and all sorts of other things going on. Right now, Jim Parsons and I are producing a show Call Me Kat, so that’s technically where my life is. Again, there’s a lot of legal stuff which is very boring about why shows do have reunions and don’t, but I think it’s probably too soon.’
If fans really want to see Penny (Kaley Cuoco), Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Sheldon, Howard (Simon Helberg), Raj (Kunal Nayyar), Bernadette, and Amy get together again, chances are that it will happen. Executives can sort out the legalities that Bialik pointed out, although she didn't get into specifics what hurdles a reunion might face in the event that plans for it actually begin to form. The upcoming Friends project proves this point - for years, fans had been calling for it to happen, especially as other classic sitcoms either get revived or rebooted. It took a little while longer, but now it's officially happening.
At this point, the biggest reason why a The Big Bang Theory reunion isn't in the cards just yet isn't because of any legalities. As Bialik pointed, it's too soon to bring all these characters back on the screen when it has just been a little more than a year after they bid fans goodbye. Kicking off a revival this early would cheapen the show's finale. Aside from that, the actors involved are currently venturing off with other projects which could hinder their desire to reprise their respective roles for a potential revival. In any case, those who miss the series can get their fix with spinoff prequel, Young Sheldon in the meantime.
