Now that The Big Bang Theory is over, fans are rewatching the series to get their fill of their favorite Pasadena, Califonia residents. We've watched this series closely for 12 seasons. These seven stars are apart of our nightly routine, just as dinner at Apartment 4A is for those on screen.
All isn't completely lost, though. The Big Bang Theory's spinoff Young Sheldon is still going strong and is a great peek inside the mind of a young Sheldon Cooper. That being said, should The Big Bang Theory have another spinoff? Should we get an entire show about Leonard and Penny's life as parents or what about Raj's life as a single man?
The writers over on The Big Bang Theory covered a lot but there are some open-ended questions fans of the show are dying to one day see answered. Whether the iconic series comes back to TV or not, here are 10 reasons why The Big Bang Theory does (and doesn't) need a sequel.
DOES: WE NEED TO FIND OUT THE SEX OF LEONARD AND PENNY'S BABY!
We didn't see this couple talk too much about children until the later seasons when they were married. We find out Penny didn't really want to have kids and Leonard was thinking about donating his sperm to carry on his DNA.
As fans found out, Penny announced she was pregnant in "The Stockholm Syndrome." As the last episode of the series, we don't find out too much about their pregnancy since it's so early on. But fans can't help themselves! Do Penny and Leonard have a boy or a girl and what will they choose to name them!?
DOESN'T: IT WAS ON FOR 12 SEASONS! WE'VE SEEN IT ALL
For 12 seasons and 12 years, we've seen this group do anything and everything. We saw genius Sheldon Cooper go from a one-dimensional theoretical physicist to a nurturing husband and devoted friend. We saw Leonard go from a bashful experimental physicist to a confident and established part of Caltech's science department.
Penny goes from a hopeful-thinking actress to a mature woman with goals in mind. Raj transforms from a shy man in the background to making groundbreaking work as an astrophysicist. Howard goes from a woman-chasing engineer to a grounded father of two. Sheldon's wife Amy starts off as a robotic neurobiologist but ends the series as a very important member of this friend group. Finally, Howard's wife Bernadette makes more groundbreaking moments in her career as a microbiologist than her husband!
With all those accomplishments to soak up, there's no need for a new spinoff.
DOES: WE'RE DYING TO KNOW HOW PENNY & LEONARD ARE AS PARENTS
Fans were surprised to see Howard as the first one in the group to be a parent. If anyone was going to be fantastic with kids, it was going to be Raj. As we know though, Raj has a hard time finding the right woman to settle down with.
Nevertheless, Leonard and Penny were the second pair on the show to become pregnant and it's a real shame that fans are never going to see how they do at raising their little baby.
DOESN'T: THERE'S NO GREATER ACHIEVEMENT FOR SHELDON LEFT
After studying string theory three-and-a-half years at Caltech, Sheldon realized he was hitting a dead end. Was his work in string theory ever going to amount to anything?
He eventually switched his focus to dark matter—before switching back to string theory again—however, all of his hard work finally paid off when he and his wife Amy won a Nobel Prize for their work on a Super-Asymmetry Theory.
After getting married and winning a Nobel, Dr. Sheldon Cooper can continue to do great things in the world of science but as far as the show is concerned, Sheldon reached his highest point.
DOES: HOW DO AMY & SHELDON LIKE MARRIED LIFE? HOW HAS WINNING A NOBEL PRIZE CHANGED THEM?
Sheldon and Amy are both insanely smart individuals. The fact they even found each other and bonded as much as they have is exceptional in itself.
Now that Amy finally got what she wanted (to be married to Sheldon) and Sheldon finally got what he wanted (a Nobel), how has this changed their dynamic? Are they the couple who sits back and enjoys the praise they continue to get for their work and relationship? Or, does it go to their heads, causing a drift in their relationship? Inquiring minds would like to know!
DOESN'T: WE'VE SEEN ALL THE BIG RELATIONSHIP MOMENTS HAPPEN ALREADY
Besides not knowing how Penny and Leonard are as parents, if Sheldon and Amy decide to procreate, and if Raj ever finds love — we've seen this group go through their biggest moments.
The show showed how Howard and Bernadette are as parents of two babies and how they deal with work/home life balance. We also saw how the group grieved the loss of Howard's mom, Debbie. Penny and Leonard married after years of playing cat and mouse, with the added reveal that they are pregnant in the last episode of the show.
Sheldon thought he'd be alone forever (not like that bothered him) until Amy Farrah Fowler came strolling into his life and won him the greatest achievement, both professionally and personally. Although Raj is still hardcore single, with friends as close as his, he should be happy. With all these massive relationship moments, there's nothing else to see.
DOES: WILL RAJ EVER MEET HIS MATCH?
If there's one character on the show who deserves to be a loving husband and father, it's Raj. He's a hopeless romantic who loves love. He's also very poetic and compares to his love for astrophysics to the women in his life. And it's not like Raj can't get girls.
We've seen him with Lucy, Emily, Claire, Anu, and even Penny! He has the charm to pick up women, it's just hard for him to keep them around. It makes us wonder who the lucky woman will be that finally sticks.
DOESN'T: THE ELEVATOR WORKS!
Four years before Penny moved in across the hall, Leonard was working on an experiment that went drastically wrong. Before it exploded in their apartment, Sheldon threw it in the elevator where it inevitably blew up and destroyed the elevator.
In the second to last episode of the series, the elevator is finally fixed after 16 years of being under construction. The walk up and down the stairs (and the fact that the elevator was broken) was such a special part of the show. Now that the elevator works, it's a great place to end.
DOES: DOES HOWARD EVER GET HIS Ph.D.?
It's a running joke throughout the 12 seasons that everyone in the group has their Ph.D. except for Howard (and Penny, obviously). As a Caltech engineer with a master's degree, Howard didn't need a Ph.D. to land his job, but that didn't make the teasing from Sheldon, Leonard, Raj, and even Bernadette stop.
Howard defended his education from MIT and his job at Caltech whenever he needed to, but did he ever get tired of the teasing and go back to school? It seems like we'll never know.
DOESN'T: LET'S NOT RUIN A GOOD THING
While The Big Bang Theory won multiple awards, was on for 12 seasons, and had some of the highest-paid actors on TV, it doesn't necessarily mean the show must go on. Let's not ruin a good thing. Similar to movies, sometimes spinoffs and sequels fall flat.
After all, there is no guarantee that the show would be the same if it was brought back. Just look at the spinoffs to Pretty Little Liars and Full House. They're great shows but can they compete with the originals? That's a hard no. Leaving The Big Bang Theory where it ended is the best way not to ruin what made it so great.
