The Big Bang Theory Is Taking A Break - Here's When The Show Returns

The Big Bang Theory on CBS

Taking a short break this Thursday and next, The Big Bang Theory won't have any new episodes until the first week of December. The popular sitcom is currently on its 12th and final season and CBS is pulling all the stops to ensure that fans will have the satisfactory send-off to the beloved nerdy gang. Plans for a season 13 were apparently in the works but with Jim Parsons reportedly not interested in returning, the station opted to cancel the series altogether.

Since it debuted in September, The Big Bang Theory season 12 has enjoyed steady ratings of more than 12 million viewers per week (although it's a significant drop from last year), proving that even after a decade, it remains to be a juggernaut for CBS. The show started a mini break this week, however, and it would be quite a wait for fans before fresh episodes roll out.

In light of this week's Thanksgiving festivities, The Big Bang Theory didn't air a new episode on Thursday November 22 (although it made up for it by broadcasting a replay of the season premiere - "The Conjugal Configuration" where the Amy (Mayim Bialik) and Sheldon spend their honeymoon in New York City). The show's break appears to extend until next week with still no new episode of The Big Bang Theory airing on November 29 either. Instead, CBS will broadcast the re-run of "The Wedding Gift Wormhole" - the second episode of the current season where the newlyweds come home and go on a treasure hunt in light of the confusing wedding gift they received from Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki). The episode featured Raj's decision to enter an arranged marriage with the help of his father as well. In-between Thursdays, the network will also be airing "The Confidence Erosion" (from last season) this Monday, November 26 where the then-engaged couple gets serious about planning their wedding.

After a two-week hiatus, The Big Bang Theory will return with a brand new episode on December 6. No detail has been released with regard to the next episode's story. It's not been confirmed if the episode 10 out of 24 in season 12 - will be the midseason finale for the series, but as The Big Bang Theory usually takes a mandatory winter break it appears to be the final outing of the show for 2018.

With just 15 episodes left before The Big Bang Theory ends, fans are looking forward to a lot of exciting things to happen. Last week, Amy and Sheldon's Super Asymmetry paper caught a major snag (which Leonard can help save) that left the two disappointed and hopeless. However, there's a good chance that this won't be the end of their academic study once the two snaps out of their misery. A crossover between Young Sheldon (which is also on hiatus) and its parent series is also in the cards with young versions of Sheldon (Iain Armitage), Georgie (Montana Jordan) and George Sr. (Lance Barber) scheduled to appear in The Big Bang Theory proper. Finally, the show is once again cooking up a big wedding with Raj (Kunal Nayyar) and Anu (Rati Gupta) tying the knot that could send the group into a big trip to India.
