While The Big Bang Theory may have started out revolving around Sheldon and his high IQ, it transformed into a show about four best friends and their relationships. Luckily, science and love were implemented nicely, giving fans a little bit of romance mixed with the academics. And now that the show has run its course after 12 seasons, we can't help but wonder about the couples that could have been. Even if Amy and Sheldon, Bernadette and Howard, and Penny and Leonard were endgame from the start, it's fun to think about the possibilities of some of Big Bang's characters.

SHELDON & RAMONA NOWITZKI

Sheldon met Ramona Nowitzki when she was a graduate student at Caltech. As a physicist herself, she admired Sheldon's work and appeared to have an obsession with him. Although Sheldon doesn't feel the same attraction for her (or for any female besides Amy, for that matter), he does love conversing with people who understand physics and who admire him.

Working with people who praise his existence is everything Sheldon Cooper could ever want. As we know, these two never worked out (on two occasions) but if Sheldon refused to absorb human emotions, Ramona would have been a good fit for him.

PENNY & GLENN

In case you don't remember who Glenn is, he used to be Bernadette's professor while at university and the two dated for a year. They ran into each other at a conference, which made Howard instantly feel inferior due to Glenn's stature. Also at the conference was Penny, who came with Amy because of the possible spa treatments. But after the weekend didn't go Penny's way, Glenn ended up driving Penny back to Los Angeles. Considering Leonard inspired Penny to date smarter, Glenn was the perfect package. He was older, educated, intelligent, and attractive. These two could have been a match made in heaven.

PENNY & DAVE

Remember how we said Leonard inspired Penny to date smarter, well-educated men? Well, look no further than Dave. David Gibbs is the tall, British fellow Amy dated when she broke up with Sheldon. Dave was goofy, tall, educated, and seemed completely infatuated with anyone who wasn't his ex-wife.

Dave would have fainted at the sight of Penny showing up on a date with him. Likewise, Penny would have loved having someone so tall and well-versed fawning over her. Come to think of it, Dave had a similar "dorky" personality to Leonard, only with a British accent — something Penny said she loved in earlier seasons. These two would have been cute.

BERNADETTE & RAJ

Bernadette and Raj are together so much and know each other so well that it wouldn't be weird if they dated. Bernadette has called Raj a "cutie" on several occasions and thinks he deserves someone special. It's clear she has a soft spot for him, and would probably give him a chance if she wasn't with Howard.

As for Raj, we already know he's had a crush on Bernadette for years. And as Howard's best friend, he practically lives at their house and has seen Bernadette through every possible situation. If anything did happen to Howard, these two leaning on one another is a total possibility.

SHELDON & VANESSA BENNET

a blind date named Vanessa shows up at Sheldons apartment on the Big Bang theory

Is Vanessa Bennet the one that got away? Not only was she stunning but she was incredibly witty, intelligent, and personable. She had a brain that was like so many of Sheldon's companions.

We know she was a minute late, according to Sheldon's test and that's why he slammed the door in her face, but she was perfect. Then again, we do love Sheldon and Amy, so maybe it was for the best. If there was a chance of any woman giving Amy a run for Sheldon's heart, it was Vanessa Bennet.

RAJ & ALICE

Alice is the woman Leonard met in the comic book store. She practically picked him up, which stunned Leonard to his core and enticed him to entertain her flirtation. The problem is, Leonard kissed her while he was still dating Priya. When Alice kicked him out of her apartment, she should have gone running into Raj's arms. Raj is sweeter and way more available than Leonard. Alice could have been the one woman to lock Raj down. Plus, we could totally see her meshing with this group perfectly. She'd probably hang out with the guys more than the women but it would have been a fun addition.

MARY COOPER & ALFRED HOFSTADTER

alfred and mary big bang theory

Sheldon's precious mama Mary is single and devotes her life to the church down in Texas. Similarly, Leonard's dad Alfred is also single after divorcing Beverly. Both Mary and Alfred met at Leonard and Penny's wedding weekend and seemed to get along beautifully, despite their different interests and beliefs. Alfred respected Mary's religious commitment and admired her faith.

And there's something about Alfred that Mary couldn't help but like. The two did leave the dinner table at the same time, after all. Although they nothing happened on the night they disappeared together, fans wouldn't be mad if something did.

WIL WHEATON & CLAIRE

Funny enough, Wil Wheaton plays himself in The Big Bang Theory, which makes this entry an interesting one. In real life Wil is married, so it's assumed that he's married on the show, even though his wife doesn't make an appearance. However, if The Big Bang Theory was in some altered universe where he was single and tried picking up women like Leonard, Howard, and Raj, he would be great for Claire.

The gang met Claire at the comic book store and we soon learned that she was writing a science fiction screenplay. Now, who better to work on a science fiction screenplay with a beautiful woman than Wil Wheaton? Raj did have his shot with Claire but as always, they never worked out.

DR. BEVERLY HOFSTADTER & BARRY KRIPKE

Just like Howard, Raj, and Leonard, Barry Kripke was always on the hunt for a beautiful woman. He was interested in Amy and later seemed very interested in Beverly Hofstadter, Leonard's mother. Barry was very taken by her at a birthday party and was trying every pickup line in the book to make Beverly attracted to him. And oddly enough, it seemed to be working! Beverly seemed smitten and appreciated the compliments she was getting from a much younger man. Who's to say these two wouldn't work out in a long-distance relationship or just a hookup?

STUART & LUCY

Aside from Raj, if there was another person on the show who deserved to be loved, it was Stuart. The poor dear was so insecure and shy that it made dating almost impossible. He did land a few dates with Penny but he had to ask for help down the road. On the other side of the coin, we have Lucy. Lucy was on and off with Raj for quite some time before the two finally called it quits. With Lucy being incredibly shy, she and Stuart would be perfect together! The two could hide out in Stuart's comic book store without ever feeling the need to mingle with the outside world.
