Kaley Cuoco expresses her interest in a Friends-style The Big Bang Theory reunion. Less than two years since the CBS sitcom ended its run, its star is already looking forward to the possibility of reuniting with her co-stars.
Debuting in 2007, The Big Bang Theory initially followed the lives of five friends based in Pasadena, the majority of them deemed social outcasts. The cast was extended in its fourth season with two female character additions in Bernie and Amy, giving Penny her own girl group. Over the years, the crew has gone through ups and downs, both professionally and personally, but they remained intact until the sitcom's run wrapped up in 2019 after 12 seasons. Despite its continued popularity, its end was due to star Jim Parsons' decision to leave, and instead of moving forward without Sheldon, the cast, and producers decided it was best to finish the show altogether.
In a new interview, Cuoco tells the press (via Metro UK) that she wants to see the Pasadena gang back together for a special reunion sometime in the future — something like what the Friends cast is doing for HBO Max. She did recognize that their sitcom predecessor has been finished far longer than The Big Bang Theory, so it might take some time before they can do something like it. Nevertheless, she hopes that if the opportunity presents itself, everyone is willing to participate.
"I would, for sure, do a reunion. Absolutely… I am down for a reunion for Big Bang. I’m counting down the days till the Friends reunion airs, it’s all I can think about. By the way, I will have a viewing party.
It’s funny because Friends ended years ago, but you watch Friends and it feels like it was just on. It’s still so current and modern. But Big Bang just ended so I think we need to give it a little bit of a break. I look forward to a reunion. I hope that our cast would be down for that sometime in the future. I’m ready for that, anytime."
Recently, Cuoco has been opening up about her experience working on The Big Bang Theory and its seemingly premature ending. According to her, she and co-star Johnny Gaelecki were very much interested in doing season 13 and so when they learned that Parsons was leaving, they were shocked. Given this sentiment, it's not surprising that she's already eager to return to Apartment 4A to see what new shenanigans she and her friends can be up to. Currently, however, she's busy with her new endeavor, The Flight Attendant which is also on HBO Max. She stars and produces the project which has been renewed for season 2 following positive reviews. Meanwhile, most of her other castmates are busy with their new endeavors after wrapping up their stint on The Big Bang Theory like Mayim Bialik who's starring in the Parsons-produced sitcom, Call Me Kat.
At this point, it might be a little too early for a The Big Bang Theory reunion, but considering its enduring popularity, it may not also take as long to bring back the cast the way it did for Friends. In any case, The rise of streaming and other media avenues also make it easier for projects like this to come to fruition. Now that Cuoco is open to doing this special, there are only other six main cast members to convince to join.
