Given how popular Amy Farrah Fowler became, it's hard to imagine that she wasn't on The Big Bang Theory from the beginning. The character was introduced in the Season 3 finale when she matched with Sheldon via a dating site. She went on to appear in most of the episodes that followed. By the time the sitcom came to an end, Amy had appeared in a total of 203 episodes.

Amy was not only showered with love by Sheldon but by the Emmys too. Actor Mayim Bialik was nominated four times for the "Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series" award. Yet even with all this attention, there's a lot about Amy Farrah Fowler that her fans missed.

Her Allergies

Kripke flirts with Amy in The Big Bang Theory

In Season 8's "The First Pitch Insufficiency," Amy, Leonard, Penny, and Sheldon go to a pub to unwind. As Amy inquires when Penny and Leonard are getting married, she asks for a bite of Sheldon's hamburger. Sheldon stops her and warns her that the burger is not good for her because it has avocado in it. His concern means Amy is allergic to avocados.

Amy is also allergic to penicillin. This revelation comes to light in the Season 5 episode "The Shiny Trinket Maneuver" when she needs to take antibiotics. She owns a silver bracelet with "penicillin" written on it to remind herself and others of this allergy.

She Got Engaged To Another Man

Perhaps this is a detail even the writers of the show forgot about since it was never revisited again. In Season 4, it's mentioned that Amy was once pseudo-engaged to a wealthy Saudi Arabian prince named Faisal.

Apparently, she met him during a fundraising trip to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. After the engagement, he agreed to fund her laboratory and all other costly experiments she would ever work on. He also took her for camel rides. Faisal never appeared in person in the sitcom. It would have been interesting for him to show up and put Sheldon into panic mode.

Her Birthday

Amy celebrates her birthday on December 17. This becomes evident in the Season 9 episode "The Opening Night Excitation." In the episode, Sheldon is in a dilemma whether to attend a Star Wars screening with Leonard and Penny or be with Amy for her birthday. After listening to Arthur Jeffries' advice, he decides to spend the night with Amy.

In the episode, the date is said to be December 17. After years of procrastination, Amy, and Sheldon consummate their relationship for the first time. The couple continues this yearly tradition of having coitus on her birthday.

Mayim Bialik Was Mentioned In The Show, Three Years Before She Joined The Cast

Big Bang Theory - Mayim Bialik as Amy

Mayim Bialik was mentioned onscreen three years before she was cast as Amy. In Season 1's "The Bat Jar Conjecture," Sheldon gets booted from his Physics Bowl Quiz team for being too arrogant. As Leonard, Raj, and Howard discuss who should replace him, Raj says, "You know who’s apparently very smart is the girl who played TV’s Blossom. She got a Ph.D. in neuroscience or something." Bialik starred in family sitcom Blossom in the '90s.

Bialik actually has a Ph.D. in neuroscience from UCLA. In the Season 4 episode "The Roommate Transmogrification" Sheldon mentions for the first time that Amy studied neurobiology. This is inspired by Bialik's real-life education.

Amy Is The Only Main Character Without Siblings

Amy is the only main character whose siblings are never seen or mentioned. Since no brother or sister attended her wedding, it can be assumed that she has no siblings at all. When she meets Missy, she also confesses that she wishes she had a sister.

Penny, Leonard, Sheldon, and Stuart each have a brother and sister. Howard has no direct siblings but he has a half-brother. Both Bernadette and Raj each have five siblings.

She Had A Made-Up Boyfriend Named Arman

In "The Weekend Vortex," Amy confesses that she once had an imaginary boyfriend named Arman whom she'd mention whenever her family asked about her dating life. Arman was a horse breeder.

In the episode, Amy attends her aunt Flora's 93rd birthday party at the retirement home. No one believes her when she says she has a boyfriend because they think he is fictional like Arman. Earlier on, she tries to persuade Sheldon to go with her to the party but he opts to stay behind and play video games instead.

The Reason She Can't Ride Horses

Amy and penny had their own secret language on the Big Bang theory

In the Season 8 episode "The Space Probe Disintegration," Sheldon and Leonard decide to play a Lord of the Rings game instead of going to lunch with Amy and Penny. Instead of skipping lunch too, Amy and Penny decide to also do whatever they want. They come to the realization that they always do what Sheldon and Leonard want and it's time for that to change.

Penny suggests to Amy that they should engage in horseback riding but she declines. Reason? Her hips don't open wider than 22 degrees. She also recalls how she rode a pony once but went flying off it when it hit a bump. For these reasons, Amy has sworn off horses.

Her Social Life As A Child

Amy never had any close friends until she was an adult. In high school, the only friend she had was the janitor, with whom she always shared her lunch. His wife wasn't so happy when he found out so she insulted her and banned him from spending time with her. Amy also had no friends during her college years.

In Season 5's "The Weekend Vortex," she reveals that when she was little, she dropped coins into "wishing wells", and prayed for friends. Due to her lack of friends in high school, only her mother signed her yearbook. This also confirms that Amy has no siblings. If she did, they could have signed her yearbook too.

She Is Skilled With A Particular Instrument

Amy is rather skilled with the harp. She is first seen playing the instrument in the Season 5 episode "The Infestation Hypothesis" though she is honest enough to admit that she only knows two songs. Sheldon also confesses that he dislikes the sound of harps because they had been overused in classic sitcoms. When Amy plays it, it triggers one of Sheldon's bad memories.

Later in  "The Infestation Hypothesis," Amy has learned how to play the song The Girl from Ipanema. And in Season 5's "The Werewolf Transformation," she has learned how to play Everybody Hurts by R.E.M. and Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi. She also plays the instrument when Leonard and Penny renewed their vows.

Her Favorite Singer

Amy's favorite singer is Neil Diamond. When Amy is with Howard in the car in the Season 7 episode "The Scavenger Vortex," she figures they have nothing in common. Howard disagrees and asks her to name all the things she likes.

When it comes to music, they realize they both liked Neil Diamond. Later, they are seen jamming to the singer's hit single "Sweet Caroline" while driving down the street. Amy appreciates the fact that Howard let her choose the music because Sheldon never allows her to do so.
