Ubisoft's E3 2018 press conference went off with a bang, as the company started things off by showcasing the hugely anticipated Beyond Good & Evil 2. The original Beyond Good & Evil was a cult classic, beloved by reviewers and by those gamers who picked it up without finding a huge audience in the general public. A sequel was then announced, but as time went on fans grew more and more disheartened.

That was, until this time last year. Ubisoft took the opportunity of the E3 expo stage to showcase a stunning reveal trailer, showing off a game that many thought would never see the light of day. As such, the wait was on to find out even more about this surprise sequel.

There hadn't been much news, until Ubisoft once again had the chance to show off a brilliant cinematic. Moving the action from planetside to spacebound this time around, it's another fantastic glimpse at the greater world of Beyond Good & Evil 2, and there's even something of a dramatic plot reveal to boot. The trailer in question can be seen above.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 Trailer

The trailer shows some of the crew initially seen in the first trailer for Beyond Good & Evil 2, including everyone's favorite Pey'j, but this time out in the depths of space rather than in a bustling metropolis. However, it's not long before something goes wrong, leading to a serious reveal at the end of the trailer: Jade, the main character of the first game, appears here to be attacking the crew.

Alongside the cinematic, Ubisoft also showed off a brief glimpse of Beyond Good & Evil 2's pre-alpha gameplay. The footage, which can be seen below, gives away a little of the gameplay on offer, with a return to the city of Ganesha.

Perhaps understandably, the cinematic has resulted in many more questions than answers. Although Ubisoft has finally confirmed that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is going to be a prequel to the original game, many fans will be left wondering exactly why Jade is apparently an antagonist this time around, and exactly when the shift will come where she turns to the side of good.

Thankfully, Ubisoft has also given fans a quick cheat sheet to help with their understanding of the cinematic, by doing a quick character breakdown for every step of the trailer - this can be seen below. Once again, it's good to have this information, but no doubt it will be leaving many things unanswered for fans. Hopefully, it won't be another year before the gaming community sees more from Beyond Good & Evil 2.
