Better Call Saul season 6 will have more physical and emotional violence. The show is currently filming its final season, which has been underway since March and since then, there have been many teasers from the creators and its stars about the events that will occur. This season specifically has been synonymous with its connection to the original due to the character of Jimmy McGill, who fans know as Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad, and his journey to becoming a "criminal" attorney, along with the path of Mike Ehrmantraut working for Gus Fring.
While Breaking Bad was a show known for its action scenes and brutal violence, Better Call Saul is more subdued in its storytelling, focusing more intently on its characters and development. Additionally, the premise of the prequel involved Jimmy in courthouses and law firms and Mike spending more time with his granddaughter rather than being heavily involved in the drug cartel or criminal activities, hence why there is not as much violence in the show, especially in the early seasons. However, as the seasons progressed, the show has grown in its action scenes while also balancing the character and thematic components.
In an interview with Den of Geek, writer and executive producer Thomas Schnauz commented that the upcoming sixth season of Better Call Saul will have more violence, physically and emotionally. Schnauz also gave insight into the writing process of the series and said that despite the observations, the writers do not focus on how much violence is in the show, going instead where the story leads. Schnauz's tease of what the season will bring can be viewed below:
"We don’t really pay attention to matching the tone or the amount of violence that came before in previous seasons. We just do what’s right for the current story. The show has always been violent in my eyes, since season 1, with Tuco and the skate twins, Nacho’s threats to Jimmy, Mike in Philly… and also emotionally violent, with Chuck betraying his brother. So there will be more physical and emotional violence in season 6, but I can’t swear that it’s any more than we had before. We’re coming to the end, so whatever happens will probably hit harder."
Despite the pacing of the last five seasons, the show has slowly and surely continued to connect events and characters from its predecessor. The last season ended on several intense fronts that certainly the final season will answer for. This includes Kim Wexler swaying more towards the dark side with Jimmy and the rise of the war between Gus and Lalo Salamanca, with Nacho Varga caught in the battle after turning on the latter.
While the show is well known for taking its time with its stories, the final season definitely brings a sort of pressure to make sure everything is told in a finite number of episodes. And with the events of last season and the flash forwards that open each season, it is certain that Better Call Saul will veer towards the ruthlessness as it inches closer to the Breaking Bad timeline and tie a lot of loose ends together. Better Call Saul season 6 does not yet have a premiere date, but it is expected to be back sometime in 2022.
