AMC unveils a new Better Call Saul season 6 trailer ominously teasing a happy ending for the show. Created by Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould, the Breaking Bad prequel series primarily functions as an origin story for Bob Odenkirk's titular lawyer. Over five and a half seasons, Better Call Saul has chronicled Jimmy McGill's slow descent from an earnest court-appointed lawyer to the unscrupulous criminal defense attorney eventually introduced in Breaking Bad season 2: Saul Goodman.

Better Call Saul also explores Jimmy's connections to the Juarez drug cartel, as well as retired police officer Mike Ehrmantraut, who undergoes a similar moral decline as he becomes right-hand man to the Los Pollos Hermanos owner and narcotics distributor Gus Fring. Introduced in Better Call Saul season 4 as the acting head of the Salamanca family after Hector suffers a stroke, Lalo has served as Gus' main adversary in the Cartel ever since. At the heart of Better Call Saul is the relationship between Jimmy and his loyal confidante Kim Wexler. In recent seasons, the two lawyers have gone further and further down a dark and irredeemable path, culminating in a devious plot to ruin fellow attorney Howard Hamlin that results in deadly unintended consequences in the Better Call Saul mid-season 6 finale.

Now, a day after airing its explosive mid-season 6 finale, AMC has released an all-new Better Call Saul trailer. The short video is set in Jimmy and Kim's apartment and contains a surprising reference to "a happy ending" for the show. Watch the trailer below:

The season 6 trailer begins with a black-and-white shot of Jimmy and Kim's apartment, likely intended to invoke memories of the unspeakable tragedy that occurred there during the Better Call Saul mid-season 6 finale's shocking final scene. While the overall tone of the trailer is ominous, Jimmy's voiceover references  "a happy ending." Though the context surrounding when this line will actually be spoken in the show is unclear, it does suggest that at least some portion of Jimmy or Kim's story will involve a happy ending. Perhaps this trailer being black-and-white is an indication this line will be spoken during the future Gene timeline, which was not seen during the first half of Better Call Saul season 6.

All things considered, the trailer's happy ending tease is likely a simple marketing ploy rather than an actual indication of what's to come. Those familiar with Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul will know that the shows don't exactly do happy endings. For the characters whose lives haven't ended in downright tragedy, the writers usually opt for bittersweet conclusions to character arcs, and the same should be expected for Better Call Saul.
