Better Call Saul producer Thomas Schnauz teases Lalo Salamanca's story in season 6. As a prequel to AMC's hit drama Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul has managed to live up to its parent series with equally outstanding cinematography, incredible performances, and intense storytelling, which was not an easy feat. Over 5 seasons, the spinoff series has followed the trickster Jimmy McGill's (Bob Odenkirk) slow descent into his titular persona, Saul Goodman, the criminal lawyer who worked side-by-side with meth manufacturers Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) in Breaking Bad.

Better Call Saul returns a few characters from the original series, such as the drug kingpin and Los Pollos Hermanos restaurateur Gustavo Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) and his right-hand man Michael Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks). Saul Goodman's origin story also introduces a few new characters, including Jimmy's close colleague and eventual wife Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn) and his brother Chuck McGill (Michael McKean), also an attorney. One of Better Call Saul's most notable introductions, Lalo Salamanca (Tony Dalton), came in season 4 and now the show's producer is teasing Lalo's storyline for season 6.

During an interview with Den of Geek, Better Call Saul executive producer Schnauz was asked about Lalo's role in the final season, who some consider to be the best antagonist in the entire Breaking Bad universe. Schnauz couldn't reveal much, but he did say Lalo will be "pissed off and a man on a mission." The interviewer also asked if they regret not introducing the character earlier, and Schnauz revealed they "talked about bringing in the character Lalo as far back as season 1, but now with 20/20 hindsight it feels he came in at the perfect time." Read his full response below:

Season 5 felt really special to me. I just felt like we were clicking on all cylinders, and Tony Dalton was a big part of that. We certainly talked about bringing in the character Lalo as far back as season 1, but now with 20/20 hindsight it feels he came in at the perfect time. I can’t say if Lalo’s role will be bigger or smaller in season 6, but he was certainly pissed off and a man on a mission in the season 5 finale.

Better Call Saul Hector Lalo Salamanca

The claim that Lalo is the best antagonist in the entire Breaking Bad world is a bold one considering the multitude of menacing villains this world inhabits. There are a few other Salamancas, Tuco (Raymond Cruz), Hector (Mark Margolis), and the silent Salamanca cousins, who aren't to be overlooked, not to mention Fring, Todd (Jesse Plemons), and the neo-Nazi Uncle Jack. However, Lalo surely measures up against any of these villains part of this rich universe.

The final moments of Better Call Saul season 5 saw Lalo survive an assassination attempt ordered by Fring, so the final season will likely see him on a path of revenge. While his exact fate is unknown, the events of Breaking Bad offer some clues. Lalo was briefly mentioned, but never actually seen in the parent series. Gus proudly informs Hector at one point that he is the only Salamanca left, suggesting that Lalo is killed at some point, which could possibly happen during Better Call Saul season 6.
