Filming is about to start on Better Call Saul season 6. The Bob Odenkirk-led series was conceived as a prequel to hit AMC show Breaking Bad. Following Odenkirk's titular character in his years prior to meeting Walter White, Better Call Saul has turned into a formidable show in its own right. The series follows Saul, previously known as James "Jimmy" McGill and his descent into moral bankruptcy.

The prequel has run for five seasons on AMC and become critically acclaimed in the process. Season 6 of Better Call Saul will be its last and is said to have an intense ending, one that could mirror its sister series in its trajectory. Season 6 was officially greenlighted in January 2020, but the production was delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic. It seems like things are finally back on track, though.

Michael Mando, who plays Nacho Varga on Better Call Saul, tweeted pictures of himself playing hockey before indicating he will start production on season 6 soon. The Canadian actor says he is "flying into BCS6," a clear nod to the show. Odenkirk previously said filming on Better Call Saul season 6 would start in March, and it appears that's still the case.

With this production update, it's likely Better Call Saul won't premiere until the very end of 2021 at the earliest. A 2022 premiere date is more likely, with seasons 1, 2, and 5 all premiering in the month of February. It would also give those working on the show a little more wiggle room during the ongoing pandemic. Even though viewers know where Jimmy ends up, the show has proven to be an exciting journey, bringing in new characters and familiar faces that bounce off of each other in exciting ways. Better Call Saul's Kim Wexler, played by Rhea Seehorn, is a particular standout and her fate is up in the air after the end of season 5.

Kim has always been the moral compass to Jimmy's questionable intentions, but season 5 seemed to hint that she, too, could break bad. On top of that, the war between Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) and Lalo Salamanca (Tony Dalton) is heating up, with Mando's Nacho caught in the middle. With so much to look forward to, the wait for Better Call Saul season 6 seems almost excruciating, but hopefully creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould took this extra time to fine tune scripts for a perfect ending. After Breaking Bad's final season, Better Call Saul has a lot to live up to.
