Better Call Saul lead actor Bob Odenkirk voices his opinion on the possibility of Jimmy McGill reuniting with his ex-wife Kim Wexler after he has served his jail sentence. The Breaking Bad prequel ended in August 2022 after 6 seasons, serving as a conclusion to the entire franchise. The final four episodes took place after the events of Breaking Bad and showed Jimmy discarding his past as Saul Goodman as he confessed to his pivotal involvement in Walter White's meth empire, landing him 86 years behind bars. Rhea Seehorn's Kim, who divorced Jimmy before he permanently embraced the persona of Saul, was present at his sentencing and visited him in prison.

Odenkirk spoke about Better Call Saul in Empire's February 2023 issue where he was questioned on whether Kim could be waiting for Jimmy after he gets a reduced sentence for good behavior. Odenkirk gave an optimistic response regarding the "very satisfying relationship" shared between the characters for the majority of the show, while also acknowledging that Jimmy sacrificed his freedom in exchange for the removal of the burden placed on him by his actions as Saul. Odenkirk's full quote is as follows:

I absolutely agree with you. I think that's what goes on. And in a weird way, he'd have to count that as a very satisfying relationship to have had in his life. He traded his freedom for peace of mind and peace of heart, and I think that's a fair trade, for sure.

Will Saul Goodman Ever Return?

Unfortunately for fans of the Breaking Bad franchise, it seems extremely unlikely that Saul will ever return. Barring the possibility of a reduced sentence Odenkirk references, Jimmy will spend the rest of his life in prison. Saul would have conjured various schemes to reduce his sentence or make his life more comfortable, but Jimmy turned himself over precisely because he no longer wanted to embrace the Saul persona. However, if viewers are to believe Odenkirk's assessment, then one day he will wind up reuniting with Kim, but it's likely that will happen off-screen.

Vince Gilligan, the creator of Breaking Bad and co-creator of Better Call Saul, has no plans for any further projects set in the universe, at least as of now. With the three main characters, Walt, Jesse Pinkman, and Saul, all having concluded their arcs and most other characters having already met their grizzly end, there is not much room for subsequent stories, much as viewers would like to see a Kim/Jimmy reunion down the line.

The conclusion of Better Call Saul means that the cast and crew of the show can move on to pastures new. A sequel to the Odenkirk-led movie Nobody is in the works, and the actor will also be lending his talents to AMC once more with its 2023 show Straight Man, which is based on the book of the same name. Meanwhile, Seehorn is pitted to lead Gilligan's next project which he has asserted is a diversion from the antihero storytelling that has defined the Breaking Bad universe. Seehorn has also stated she's actively making plans to work with the cast and crew of Better Call Saul, including Odenkirk, in various different projects. Though viewers may never see Jimmy and Kim reunite on-screen, they can at least look forward to Odenkirk and Seehorn collaborating again.
