For decades, horror fans have gravitated towards the sub-genre that honors the undead. Since George A. Romero debuted Night of the Living Dead, the zombie sub-genre has long been known for action, gore, and even a thrilling storyline that sucks viewers in. There's something about humanity turning rogue that makes for a terrifying movie, and streaming platforms have picked up on it.

Hulu is known for captivating audiences with a variety of shows and movies, and when it comes to zombies, they've got fans covered. In the sea of limitless choices, these are the best movies that include the living dead and everything in between.

Anna And The Apocalypse (2017) - 6

Directed by newcomer John McPhail, Anna and the Apocalypse stars Ella Hunt, Malcolm Cumming, and Sarah Swire, and centers on a small town named Little Haven that's been ravaged by zombies.

A teenager named Anna (Hunt) is forced to come to terms with her new world, and while she and her friends seek a haven, they sing and dance their way through it to keep things lighthearted. While it's all fun and games at first, Anna realizes that the situation is much dire and the zombies are out for blood.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) - 6.2

From video games to animated movies, the Resident Evil franchise has been incredibly successful. While some installments are better than others, Resident Evil: Apocalypse falls in the middle of the road. The second movie was released in 2004 and found Alice (Milla Jovovich) in a Raccoon City hospital. She realizes she has enhanced strength and senses and uses them to escape the madness that has taken over the city.

Alice teams up with a Rescue Service team to find a little girl named Angie (Sophie Vavasseur) to make it out of Raccoon City alive before a nuclear bomb destroys the city.

Little Monsters (2019) - 6.3

Not to be confused with the 1989 adventure-comedy Little Monsters, the 2019 movie is filled with comedy, zombies, and a fiercely protective kindergarten teacher named Miss Caroline (Lupita Nyong'o). She decides to bring her class to a nearby farm for a field trip but realizes, along with a parent chaperone named Dave (Alexander England), that the outing won't be happening when a pack of zombies shows up.

This movie isn't so much horror-themed, but it does intermix comedy and zombies beautifully. Also, of all the movies Nyong'o has done so far, Little Monsters is one of her best.

Resident Evil: Extinction (2007) - 6.3

The third installment, Resident Evil: Extinction, follows Alice to the Nevada desert, where she's been a drifter since the Raccoon City bombing. Alice's motivation is to take down the Umbrella Corporation once and for all while taking out a few zombies along the way.

A few of Alice's old friends appear along the way, as well as an old flame she'll have to confront and fight to the death.

Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018) - 6.3

Three years after Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials premiered, the third and final installment, Maze Runner: The Death Cure, was released. The movie centers on the franchise's hero Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) as he continues to fight for his freedom. This time though, there are multiple threats pinned against him and his friends, which proves to be their most difficult feat yet.

Tasked with a mission to find a cure for "The Flare," Thomas leads the group into a legendary city, which the villains control. Will they find a cure, or will they die trying?

The Crazies (2010) - 6.5

The Crazies is a unique 2010 zombie thriller set in a quiet farming town and presents a new strain of the undead that still has a semblance of humanity. It all starts when a mysterious plane crashes in a nearby body of water that's connected to the small town.

It's up to the town's sheriff, David (Timothy Olyphant), to save those he loves while still keeping a sense of humanity within himself and his partner, Russell (Joe Anderson).

28 Weeks Later (2007) - 7

28 Weeks Later is the sequel to Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later and is set six months after the virus initially broke out. After the Rage Virus took out most of the population in Great Britain, a small area in London has been contained, where survivors can begin again. After Don (Robert Carlyle) narrowly escapes a large group of zombies in the beginning scene, he's reunited with his kids and tries to form a sense of normalcy for them.

But nothing goes to plan in zombie movies, and the effort it took to contain the virus re-emerges, and in some days, is just as critical as the original outbreak.

I Am Legend (2007) - 7.2

Years after a plague has taken out most of humanity, a doctor named Robert Neville (Will Smith) is one of the remaining survivors working hard to find a cure. Those left behind have turned into mutated monsters that will stop at nothing to take out the remaining humans.

After Neville takes one of the female plaque victims, he risks it all to redeem the population while grappling with his losses along the way. Not only is I Am Legend an emotional and action-filled rollercoaster, but it has an alternate ending that might be better than the original.

28 Days Later (2002) - 7.6

Some of the most deadly viruses in horror movies land in the zombie sub-genre, and without a doubt, the Rage Virus in 28 Days Later is one of the worst. Weeks after an incurable virus wreaks havoc across the U.K., a man named Jim (Cillian Murphy) wakes up in the hospital, not knowing what's happened. As he roams the empty streets, he finds himself surrounded by the vicious undead.

After he finds a group of survivors, they travel to an army encampment where they hope they'll find some relief. But what they don't know is that while the main threat is the undead, living humans can be just as horrifying.

Train To Busan (2016) - 7.6

The best zombie movie on Hulu is Sang-ho Yeon's Train to Busan. It centers on a work-obsessed businessman named Seo Seok-Woo (Gong Yoo) who's traveling with his young daughter Soo-Ann (Kim Su-An) by train. After he and the rest of the passengers realize a virus is taking out most of South Korea, they fight for survival while being contained in the train cabs.

Seok-Woo must step up as a leader and a father if he and the rest of the survivors want to get out of this situation alive.
