At the age of 25, the singer turned actress is one of the fastest-rising young actresses in Hollywood. She was the youngest actress ever to pick up an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series and was part of the cast for the highest-grossing movie in 2021. However, not all her movies and TV shows were critical sensations.

Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021) - 25%

Zendaya had four movies hit in 2021 alone, and while two of them were big hits, the other two were not as critically accepted. As a matter of fact, one of them was not only deemed Rotten by Rotten Tomatoes but was also blasted by fans. Zendaya voiced Lola Bunny in Space Jam: A New Legacy.

This was a sequel to the original Space Jam, with LeBron James replacing Michael Jordan in the lead role. Critics blasted the movie for trading in the humor of the original for product placement, but some fans defended the movie as being an entertaining movie with a positive message for the kids.

Malcolm & Marie (2021) - 56%

Malcolm & Marie was the first Zendaya movie to come out in 2021, but it was not as well known as the others since it was a smaller Netflix-only release. The movie was shot in black and white and almost the entire movie focused only on the two characters in their apartment. Rotten Tomatoes critics said the film never reaches its ambitions, but the chemistry between the actors helps bring the story to life.

The Greatest Showman (2017) - 57%

Before Zendaya became an award-winning actress, she was a singer, reaching success as a teenager. It was no surprise when she signed on early in her career to take part in a musical. This was The Greatest Showman, where she co-starred alongside Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron in a story about P.T. Barnum.

Zendaya was Anne Wheeler in The Greatest Showman, a trapeze artist and Zac Efron's love interest in the movie. While critics mostly dismissed it, complaining that it avoided the more complicated life of Barnum, the fans mostly loved it, giving it an 86% Audience Score.

Smallfoot (2018) - 76%

Zendaya's most popular voice role came in the 2018 Warner Bros. animated movie, Smallfoot. The movie told the story of a Yeti named Migo who meets a human, with both believing the other was just a myth. Zendaya voiced Meechee, a young female Yeti and Migo's eventual love interest.

Critics appreciated the movie, praising its message that would likely resonate with both young and older audiences. However, other critics pointed out that it was mostly a movie for kids, and fans gave it a lower 62% Audience Score.

Dune (2021) - 83%

Zendaya had a small, but important role in Dune in 2021. While Zendaya's character Chani was advertised heavily in the trailers, she only appeared in dream sequences until the final third of the movie when Paul Atreides and his mother discover Chani and her Freeman allies.

Chani will play a huge role in future movies in the Dune series after getting very little screen time in the first one. While some critics pointed out that the movie struggled with the source material, the scope and ambition made it one of the year's most thrilling movies.

Euphoria - 90%

Zendaya will always be best known for her role as MJ in the Spider-Man movies for the MCU. All three of the movies were critically beloved, all ranking above 90% on Rotten Tomatoes and Certified Fresh. The lower of the three was the second movie, Spider-Man: Far From Home.

This was the Spider-Man movie in the trilogy where Zendaya moved from a background character to a supporting role. Critics praised the teen romance story between Peter Parker and MJ, while also giving credit to the superhero action in the movie.

black-ish - 92%

Zendaya does not have a large role in black-ish, but the show has a fantastic 92% critical rating. The series stars Anthony Anderson as Dre, a man who moves his family into a classy white neighborhood while wanting to stay true to his roots.

Zendaya appeared in season 2 of black-ish in a guest-starring role as Resheida, a close friend of daughter, Zoey, and this causes problems when Dre asks her to be the face of his Daddy's Day campaign instead of his daughter.

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) - 92%

Spider-Man: Homecoming introduced the Web-Slinger's supporting cast to the MCU. This first movie mostly dealt with best friend Ned Leeds, Tony Stark as the mentor, and Happy Hogan as the put-upon head of Stark International security.

Zendaya was also introduced as a Spider-Man character, but she didn't even mention her name until the end when she said it was MJ. Peter had a different love interest here in Liz Allen, and while Zendaya didn't get much to do, she did enough to become a fan favorite. Critics praised the movie, exclaiming that a second reboot could deliver a fun adventure.
