Many Green Lanterns have entered and left the ranks of the Justice League, but few have claimed a spot among the Yellow Lantern Corps, the residing 'evil' Lanterns that terrorize the universe with fear. Their status among the Lanterns holds the weight of being regarded as villains, with Sinestro leading the charge against the Green Lanterns fighting for good. But that isn't always the case.

For most of their membership and history, Yellow Lanterns are terrifyingly powerful and made moreso through their most heinous acts across the galaxy. With Sinestro in charge, the Yellow Lanterns wield fear as a controlling weapon as a 'Sinestro Corps.' But what if a different Lantern were to take up that leadership role, and give its forces a new mission? Fans don't have to wonder, since the comics already showed what's possible if a newer Green Lantern took Sinestro's spot as the top Yellow Lantern.

In Justice League Vol. 3 #27 by Bryan Hitch, Fernando Pasarin, and Oclair Albert, it's revealed that the Lantern Simon Baz will become a Yellow Lantern in the future. The children of the Justice league visit their parents in the modern DC Universe, telling them of their adventures in the future and revealing that Simon actually kills Sinestro and takes over. He becomes the Supreme Yellow Lantern and leads the Corps, the children don't seem to hold ill will towards him. So it can be assumed that in the future, Simon starts to lead the Yellow Lanterns to become a force for good and makes significant changes to their operations.

Yellow Lanterns Become Good Under Simon Baz's Leadership

Justice League #27

While Simon Baz's run as a Yellow Lantern is only mentioned in passing, one Green Lantern wielded the ring for much longer, and is currently still wielding the ring: Simon's partner, Jessica Cruz, who became the host of a Yellow Ring during Future State: Green Lantern by Geoffrey Thorne, Tom Raney, and Michael Atiyeh. She took it out of necessity when the Central Power Battery blew up and the Green Lantern's were left without their Green Rings. Although it was used because of necessity, Jessica was able to figure out a way to use it for good and even saved a crashing ship with that power. She set an example that shows how the rings can be used to benefit the universe, and as her partner, Simon could very easily figure out how to use the rings just like she did. He was chosen to be a ring wielder because of his good heart and strong will, so it's safe to assume he'd carry that over to the Yellow Lantern Corps.

With his leadership, the Yellow Lanterns could easily become a Corps big enough and strong enough to work side by side with the Green Lanterns and watch over half the galaxy. While it hasn't happened yet, Simon's changes would show the rest of the Lantern Corps that fear isn't something that is necessarily evil. Emotions are never inherently bad, it's what the user does with these emotions that make them good or bad, as shown through DC's main Green Lantern's entering into another Corps and mastering that emotional spectrum. With Sinestro gone, the Yellow Lanterns are free from the influence of Hal Jordan's nemesis and with Simon's experience as a Green Lantern, they could be taught how to be heroes.

Yellow Lanterns are some of the strongest characters in DC, but are rarely used as a force for good. Their power is shown through their evil acts, led directly by the villain Sinestro, who manipulates the members of the Corps to his will. However, with the help of a Green Lantern's will and the Justice League, the Yellow Lantern Corps could become some of the most powerful heroes.
