The idea of living in an apartment complex with good friends sounds like a dream, especially if it's in sunny California and there's a pretty pool involved. But for the residents of the building on Melrose Place, it's kind of a nightmare having that particular address, as crazy things seem to happen to everyone who moves in. Many of the young stars became famous after being on the series, such as Heather Locklear and Marcia Cross.
Melrose Place and Beverly Hills 90210 are always compared as MP is a spin-off of the teen drama. It's known for its nighttime soap opera qualities and having truly wild moments in almost every episode. When ranked on IMDb, there are some episodes that fans clearly loved, along with those that just didn't cut it.
Best: The B*tch Is Back (8.5)
It makes sense that this second season episode got a high rating because it's such a big moment for the show.
Everyone thought that Kimberly Shaw (Marcia Cross) had passed away after being in a car accident, but she returns to Michael Mancini's (Thomas Calabro) place. She seems to be pretty unhinged and also has a prominent scar on her head. Of all the characters on Melrose Place, Kimberly is the most memorable. The shot of her examining her scar is iconic.
Worst: Lost And Found (7.1)
There isn't a lot that is exciting in this season 1 episode, so the low rating makes sense. Alison (Courtney Throne-Smith) hates a screenplay that Billy (Andrew Shue) wrote and Jane (Josie Bissett) is upset that Michael is never home. There is one connection to 90210 here as Jake (Grant Show) breaks up with Kelly Taylor (Jennie Garth).
Best: Till Death Do Us Part (8.5)
This was the season 2 finale, which was two hours long, and a clear hit with the fans. There's a lot going on here, and one of the most important things is that Amanda (Heather Locklear) deals with a sexual harassment lawsuit put forth by Chas (Jeff Kaake).
Another big event is the wedding of Alison and Billy, which doesn't happen. She has a memory of her dad molesting her and runs away. Nighttime soaps often have crazy season finales and a lot happened in this episode.
Worst: Drawing The Line (7.0)
There really isn't much plot in this episode, which is a sharp contrast to how crazy things get for the characters later on. It's no wonder it's considered one of the show's worst episodes.
Rhonda (Vanessa Williams) welcomes Carrie, a roommate, who is too concerned with being clean, so she doesn't like her. Alison and Keith (William R. Moses) face problems when his former wife comes back. They aren't a very exciting couple so this doesn't feel dramatic enough.
Best: Postmortem Madness (8.6)
When people think about Melrose Place, they probably remember Kimberly being responsible for the apartment building blowing up. Saying this was crazy is an understatement.
This high-scoring episode came right after that one. "Postmortem Madness" was a thrilling episode, as the characters were dealing with the aftermath of the explosion. Alison wasn't able to see for a time, which was tragic to watch, and sweet Matt (Doug Savant) was in jail for supposedly committing a murder (which he didn't do).
Worst: Deja Vu, All Over Again (7.0)
In this unpopular episode, there are problems in Alison and Jake's relationship, as his former lover Colleen comes back, and Alison has to deal with Jake having a son. By this point, Alison is an alcoholic, and this is a tough situation for her. Michael also has to deal with his sister Jennifer visiting.
The only exciting thing about this episode is that Jennifer is played by Alyssa Milano, known for her starring role as Phoebe on Charmed, which had many great episodes.
Best: The Cook, The Creep, His Lover And Her Sister (8.6)
The title is a bit of a handful, but fans loved the episode because it's full of drama and forward momentum in this episode. Jane's younger sister Sydney (Laura Leighton) feuds with Chris (Andrew Williams) as they accuse the other one of harassment. Because Jake worked with the FBI on a case, they give him $50,000, and he purchases Shooters, the bar that gives him a sense of purpose in life. PLL fans will recognize Laura Leighton as Hanna's mom.
Worst: Catch Her in the Lie (6.7)
This episode is a bit tiresome as no one is doing well and not in a way that's entertaining. After learning about her brain tumor, Michael has been taking care of Kimberly and she gets good news. Alison is pregnant and bonds with Billy, but many fans had already moved on from the idea of them being together. Amanda is with Peter (Jack Wagner) but he cheats on her with Taylor (Lisa Rinna).
Best: The Big Bang Theory (9.1)
The season 3 finale is when the big incident happens: Kimberly blows up the building.
Before that, though, everyone has some crazy things happening in their personal lives. Alison is livid that Brooke (Kristin Davis) and Billy are getting married and she knows that Brooke manipulated it so she and Billy were kept apart. Paul (David Beecroft) makes sure that Matt is arrested for the murder of his wife, and Jess (Dan Cortese) wants Jo (Daphne Zuniga) to marry him. When she says no, he turns violent. While many recent shows deserve reboots, the Melrose Place reboot never came close to the drama of the original show.
Worst: Dead Men Don't Shut Up (4.1)
This might be a pretty juicy title, but the episode got a pitifully low rating.
"Dead Men Don't Shut Up" is from the seventh season, and fans often get tired of a show at that point. Lexi (Jamie Luner) asks Michael to help her hide Marlin's death. He passed away from taking too much Viagra, which is a silly and ridiculous storyline, hence the low rating.
