Wonder Woman has been one of the best characters in the DCEU since her first movie arrived, and she remains one of the most bankable heroes for Warner Bros., even despite their constant changes to the brand in 2022. She also remains a top hero in DC comics, as she has multiple titles in 2022 and has been part of some of the biggest crossover events in company history.

Wonder Woman has been around longer than almost any superhero in comic books today. The character made her debut in 1941, just two years after Batman and Superman made their first appearance. However, she struggled to tell good stories for a long time because creative teams rarely took female heroes seriously. Thankfully, over time, the right teams worked on her titles and created some of the best stories in comic book history.

New 52 Wonder Woman (Vol. 4 #1-35)

A deleted poster wrote that their favorite run was from Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang. This brought about a comment by florgitymorgity, who agreed and said it was "a refreshing self contained epic" since it was disconnected from the rest of DC. This storyline saw Wonder Woman learn who her birth father was, and while it destroyed Diana, it also brought Hera after her with a wrathful vengeance.

This Wonder Woman run was part of the New 52, and it showed that Diana was the only person standing between the uncaring gods and humanity's destruction. The books do a great job of showing why Diana is a hero, and why she might be the best of them all.

Wonder Woman: The Hiketeia

Wonder Woman in The Hiketeia

When it comes to reading DCsuperhero stories that feature more than just superhero battles, Wonder Woman has plenty to choose from. On Reddit, seaofvapours wrote that they liked Wonder Woman: The Hiketeia, which they said was amazing "and challenges the character on a philosophical and moral framework."

This is a hard story, and there are no easy answers in this book. Diana takes a young woman under her protection, but then learns that the woman might not be as helpless as thought. The Hiketeia was an oath to protect someone until released or dead, and that is what Wonder Woman does. When Batman comes for the girl, it sets up the fight of the century between Wonder Woman and one of her strangest friends.

Wonder Woman: Dead Earth

Wonder Woman Dead Earth comic

Wonder Woman: Dead Earth is a newer storyline for fans, and one that takes Diana somewhere she has never been. When Thisisnotworthy recommended it on Reddit, it was a welcome addition to the reading lists of anyone wanting to learn more about Wonder Woman.

This is a story that is from the DC Black Label, which means it is a non-canon tale that is often meant for more mature audiences. In this comic, Wonder Woman wakes up in a post-apocalyptic world, and she has to figure out what went wrong. It is also nice because it doesn't get as dark and grim as other DC stories in the future, and that is thanks to Wonder Woman's morality.

George Perez's Wonder Woman Run

George Perez's Wonder Woman

When it comes to great Wonder Woman stories, there are not as many great smaller stories throughout her existence, like there are from Superman and Batman. However, she has some amazing runs. On Reddit, thedairybandit wrote, "George Perez's WW run is amazing," and they are right.

Perez rebooted Wonder Woman in 1986 after the Crisis on Infinite Earths event, and he helped reinvent the character for a new generation. He made her younger and leaned more into Greek myths than any other creator before him.

Wonder Woman: Gods Of Gotham

When people talk Wonder Woman, one creator that is often gets overlooked is Phil Jimenez. This includes the story Gods of Gotham, which NOVAofURTH calls their favorite. "While I don't think he ever reaches that high point again, his run is very good".

This brings Wonder Woman in to work with the Batman Family. Batman and Diana team up to battle a series of Gotham City rogues who have been given godlike powers. However, as expected, Wonder Woman and Batman can't always get along.

Wonder Woman #750

Wonder Woman #750 by Nicola Scott

It is just one issue, but as far as batguano1 is concerned, Wonder Woman #750 is a great starting point for a newcomer, saying they "highly recommend it." This book received almost universal praise from readers when it came out.

The book was oversized, with 96 pages of story, and it included plots by some of the best names in the business, including Gail Simone and Greg Rucka. The book included stories from the past, present, and future, and that makes it a great starting point when it comes to learning what Wonder Woman is all about. If a fan has never read a Wonder Woman book, this is a great launching point.

The Twelve Labors by Len Wein

Justice League and Wonder Woman from 12 Labors comic book

This storyline takes place in Wonder Woman #212-222 and features one of Diana's greatest tests. Before this story began, Wonder Woman had lost her powers and had since regained them, but at the expense of her memories. She then set out to reintegrate herself into the superhero world.

BlackWillus wrote on Reddit a list of Wonder Woman stories, which included "The 12 Labors by Len Wein." This features her going to the abandoned Justice League headquarters to try to regain her memories of the past and questioning whether she even qualifies to be part of this team. She then sets off on her version of Hercules' Twelve Labors.

Jill Thompson's Run

Wonder Woman: The True Amazon

When looking at Wonder Woman storylines, there are not as many written by women as some might hope. However, one deleted Redditor said that they loved Jill Thompson's post-Crisis run. They had high praise, writing, "#45 is on par with Sandman in both subject and quality." That makes sense because Thompson worked on Sandman with Neil Gaiman.

Just looking at that specific issue, it focuses on the origin of Pandora and creates the connection between Diana and Pandora. Jill Thompson also has a Wonder Woman graphic novel titled The True Amazon that tells the story of Diana before she became Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman: A League of One

Sometimes, all it takes is one issue for a standalone story to rocket to the team of best-of lists. For Wonder Woman, that happened with her story A League of One. The book had Wonder Woman setting out to bring down an "ultimate evil," but first she has to beat her own teammates in the Justice League.

On Reddit, you_me_fivedollars wrote, "Can we add A League of One on there? Great standalone WW story!" This story took a break from the normal Greek god storylines, and it showed how strong Diana is. When she took down the top heroes on her own team, she proved her mental, physical, and moral superiority.

The Legend of Wonder Woman by Renae DeLiz

When it came to respect and love for Wonder Woman stories, r2datu wrote they appreciated all the other suggestions, but they would "also include The Legend of Wonder Woman by Renae DeLiz." This is another story that retells Diana's Golden Age origin story.

The story came out in 2015 as a digital-first series, but is now available to read in physical formats as well. The first volume sees Diana train to become a warrior, and then she meets Steve Trevor, who she accompanies to Europe to fight in World War II. While this sounds like the DCEU movie, the story went in a different direction.
