In the first true trend of the 2020’s, Instagram’s "Who Are You?" filters have taken off in a big way. A modern spin on personality quizzes, these filters take your face, add a stylized frame over your forehead, and after a dramatic spin they tell you your result. Results vary from what character from a popular show or movie you are, what nationality you are, or how old you look. Most likely these filters are random. Simply using one twice proves that. They are, however, fun and in high demand.

The filters can be a bit hard to find though, with Instagram’s effect bar not housing a search bar as of yet. The best way to use them is by clicking on your friends’ stories that feature them, or scrolling through the fandom tab.

Some filters are definitely better than others, with the highlights providing some real fun on the social media platform. Here we’ll be picking some of the best ones which you can try for yourself.

Shrek, Pokemon, Cartoons, and More Instagram Filters

Shrek has become a larger-than-life fictional character in the past several years, joining the likes of Spongebob and The Simpsons among the animated heavyweights. His popularity started with the four movies which were all successful thanks to the supporting cast of characters. This filter assigns you a character, displaying the final choice inside a golden frame floating above your forehead. Lord Farquad, Gingy, Donkey, Fiona, Prince Charming, Pinocchio and Shrek himself are all options, among others. Shrek is known among both young and old, making this not only a popular one, but one of the most fun.

Pokemon is still widely popular, and even with new generations being added every few years, the first batch has always been the most popular. This Pokemon filter highlights your face in purple as the possible outcomes cycle over your head. Some of the most popular Pokemon are featured here, although there is a noticeable lack of Pikachu who is easily the most widely recognized one.

The "Cartoon Character?" filter is the one that started it all, or at least elevated the trend to the mainstream. Seemingly everyone was using this one over the holidays, with the filter giving you a cartoon character. The selected character was usually a nostalgic one. Spongebob, Danny Phantom, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, Rick and Morty and Rugrats are all here with many others. It has the most options of any of the tested filters.

Quiz Me And How Do You Bo?

Quiz Me is a fun twist on the format with the filter giving you a question to answer rather than a character or something. It’s a conversation starter that providers you with questions like "What makes you feel guilty?" or "If you came with a warning label, what would it say?" Instagram influencers like this one as it gives them an easy way to interact with their followers.

It was only a matter of time until big businesses dipped their toes in branded filters. Chicken company Bojangles was one of the first. This clever filter whirls various menu items from the popular fast food chain around you. The filter decides if you are fries, a biscuit, or a 2-piece dinner. The Instagram trend doesn’t seem to be stopping soon, either. Instead, more are being created every day.
