Underworld is gothic, stylish, and gory, but it's entertaining. Kate Beckinsale stars as Selene and does a good job looking like a dangerous vampire warrior. She does well in her role as the hero/warrior, and the action scenes are entertaining and violent, making for a believable war between the two mythical races.

The Monster Squad (1987)

Dracula lives, and he's planning to take over the world with the help of his monster friends, but when a young group of monster fanatics uncovers his plan, they must work to derail it before it's too late.

Although The Monster Squad is a horror movie, it's aimed more toward kids, and if viewers see it at the right age, it will instantly become a favorite. It has impressive make-up and creature effects for monsters like Frankenstein and the Wolfman, and the plot is pleasantly fast. With enjoyable lines and funny scenes, this can become a nostalgic favorite.

A British squad is sent to the Highlands of Scotland for a special training mission, but things go sideways when their mission becomes a fight for their lives as they're hunted by an unbelievable enemy: werewolves.

With wild action scenes and over-the-top gore, this is a thrilling monster movie. The werewolves in this film are especially well-designed and are introduced early on. With each glimpse of them, the wolves become even more creepy. Critics agree that with the combined gore and cast, this is one of the best werewolf movies to date.

The Wolfman (1941)

After returning to Wales, Larry Talbot meets a beautiful woman. When he takes her to a carnival, he's attacked and bitten by a werewolf and a fortune-teller predicts that he will turn into a beast with every full moon.

While a classic like The Wolfman wouldn't seem too scary to today's viewers, it's still able to bring about that fear through the power of suggestion and the audience's imagination. The twisted and foggy forest brings about a creepy setting that viewers won't soon forget and an eeriness to the film that spells horror. This makes it one of the best Wolfman movies to date.

Silver Bullet is based on the Stephen King Novel, and he adapted the screenplay himself. With great writing comes some genuinely frightening scenes along with good humor that makes the movie enjoyable. It's an earnest movie that has several memorable scenes that make it worth the watch.

The Wolfman (2010)

An American man returns to his homeland to help find his missing brother, but the body has turned up mauled. When he begins to hunt for the beast that killed him, he's attacked and bitten, cursing him to turn into a werewolf when the moon is full.

The 2010 version of The Wolfman is gloomy and ominous. Benicio Del Toro plays a wonderfully sad Lawrence who is haunted and doomed, along with well-known actor, Anthony Hopkins. Also, the combination of the scenes with Danny Elfman's creeping music makes for a well-made werewolf horror film.

Ginger Snaps (2000)

Two sisters are completely obsessed with death and make a pact to die together. However, when Ginger is bitten by a wolf on a full moon, she starts changing for the worst. She gets scarier, and when not only dogs are being killed, her sister begins to worry.

Ginger Snaps is ferocious and funny, not to mention gory. It's a memorable monster movie that entertains those who love horror and who have a tough stomach for blood and gore. This film may be one of the best teenage werewolf movies ever made.

The Howling was a clever and fresh werewolf movie for its time. It has arguably one of the best werewolf transformations in a horror film and features plenty of witty writing to balance out the terror and suspense of the movie. The story also makes an effort to mention wider werewolf lore, making this a must-see horror film.

The transformation scene, with the special effects, is one that'll haunt your nightmares. Werewolf movies don't come more entertaining than this. And the effects are amazing for the time.
