Beginning on January 27, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet players can take on the highly anticipated Greninja Tera Raid, and Toxicroak is one of several fantastic options for those participating in this event. Whether they solo the raid or team up with friends, trainers will find that Toxicroak's Dry Skin ability and potential movesets make this monster an ideal counter against Greninja in this 7-star event. With multiple movesets to choose from, Toxicroak is not only strong but versatile, allowing it to both take and deal a significant amount of damage with ease. However, to take down and capture Greninja, trainers must maximize Toxicroak's viability with the right nature, EV spread, moves, and strategy.

In contrast to popular support Pokémon like Umbreon in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet's Tera Raids, Toxicroak will function best as an offensive team member. However, the Poison-/Fighting-type does have a lot of potential staying power in the Greninja Tera Raid event due to its Dry Skin ability, which will nullify Greninja's Water-type moves and restore Toxicroak's health. Since the Poison Tera-type Greninja's moveset consists of Hydro Pump, Night Slash, Ice Beam, and Gunk Shot, Toxicroak is capable of resisting most of its moves while dealing super-effective damage when equipped with the right moveset.

Best Nature & EV For Toxicroak

Toxicroak Dex Entry

According to the YouTube channel Fin444, to maximize Toxicroak's offensive capabilities, trainers should ensure the Pokémon has an Adamant nature, similar to the best Clodsire build in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. With this nature, Toxicroak's attack stat will be increased while its special attack is lowered. Of course, perfect IVs are always a plus, but Toxicroak's special attack stat will not matter in this raid, and players should focus instead on perfecting their Toxicroak's attack, HP, and speed stats. To accomplish this, perfect IVs in at least these three stats are ideal, and EV spreads should maximize Toxicroak's attack with 252 points while equally spreading the remaining points in HP and speed.

Best Moveset for Toxicroak

Mud-Slap at TM Machine

Whether players operate as a team to take down Greninja in this 7-star raid, Toxicroak has access to multiple beneficial movesets to counter the Unrivaled Pokémon in battle. However, one set seems to be the best option for those planning to maximize the strength of their Toxicroak and go solo in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet's Greninja raid. Equipped with Mud-Slap, Earthquake, Taunt, and Swords Dance, Toxicroak can effectively set up and sweep all on its thanks to Greninja's Poison Tera-typing and Toxicroak's HP-restoring Dry Skin ability. While there is some debate about whether players should alter their Toxicroak's Tera-type to either Psychic or Ground, both types can be countered by Greninja, and sacrificing Toxicroak's HP for STAB is a bad call here, considering it's not particularly defensive.

Best Battle Strategy for Toxicroak

Greninja Faints

Toxicroak's build will allow it to set up and sweep by first spamming the move Mud-Slap to lower Greninja's accuracy. This will deal a small amount of super-effective damage while benefiting players and their teammates by preventing Greninja's moves from landing. Next, trainers should set up with Swords Dance and Taunt to maximize their attack while regaining HP from Greninja's Hydro Pump. Finally, Toxicroak's Earthquake will deal significant damage to Greninja, given its Poison Tera-type. This strategy resembles Vaporeon's build for raids in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, which would make a great partner for Toxicroak in the live Greninja Tera Raid event.
