Part of the fun of Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is the variety of team combinations available. With nine characters available in teams of three, there are over three thousand team combinations. The effectiveness of a certain team can vary depending on how a character has been built. Some teams are better than others for certain scenarios and bad guys.
The best team combinations allow all three characters to tackle different sides of the battle. For example, Princess Peach's shield can help her tank hits from the secret boss of Beacon Beach, the Truly Ginormous Goomba of Sparks of Hope, while Luigi picks him off from a distance and Rabbid Mario does the most damage. Every Spark chosen for a character caters to their individual talents and serves to strengthen the combination's innate power. Some combinations are powerhouses while others can last a dozen rounds.
Best Movement Comp
Certain battles focus on getting from one end of the map to the other, with little regard for enemies. Therefore, for these battles, one of the best teams to use involves Rabbid Rosalina, Rabbid Luigi, and Edge.
Rabbid Rosalina, whom players save after fighting Sparks of Hope's second boss Midnite, can buy her teammates time to move with her Ennui move. Rabbid Luigi has both glide upgrades and movement upgrades, allowing him to cover a lot of ground if his allies are in the right spot. Edge's job is to help Rabbid Luigi get to the end of the map with her Dash Increments Movement.
Best Survival Comp
The moment players encounter their first "survive" challenge, they know they're in for a bad time. Luckily, Princess Peach, her Rabbid counterpart, and her chronic kidnapper Bowser are ready to tackle the challenge. Peach's shield buffs her allies against the swarms of attacks. When the shield breaks and characters take damage, Rabbid Peach can heal them. Lastly, Bowser's robot minions, whom players learn to control while fighting the third Sparks of Hope boss Bedrock can tackle multiple enemies with multiple explosions.
Best Offensive Comp
If the goal is to destroy, then one of the best team comps involves Rabbid Mario, Bowser, and Mario. All three are set up to deal massive amounts of damage in varying ways. Rabbid Mario can take out whole swarms of enemies with his wide-range gauntlets. Bowser doesn't care what he hits so long as his enemies go down, like a more dangerous Rabbid Peach. Mario is the most flexible character, capable of a few targeted shots from a distance.
Best Defensive Comp
Sometimes, when facing off against a range of powerful foes, it's best to take a defensive approach, such as the Giant Wildclaw boss battle. Luigi, Rabbid Rosalina, and Peach are well suited to defensive combat. Luigi's attacks are stronger the farther he is from a target, making him valuable in a far corner of the map. Rabbid Rosalina's Ennui will freeze enemies and give everyone time to pick them off without worrying about attacks. When all else fails, Peach's shield can protect her friends as they run to better positions.
Best Mixed Comp
If players want a well-rounded team capable of handling a variety of challenges, Mario, Edge, and Rabbid Peach are a good set-up. As previously stated, Mario is flexible in team comps, and able to pull a great offense while mimicking his brother's long-range protective stance. Edge can get up close and personal, lining up opponents for a dash or a swing of her sword. Lastly, Rabbid Peach can heal her teammates while ignoring partial cover with her missiles.
While these team comps all work well, there are plenty more for players to experiment with and enjoy in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope.
