Epix launched in 2009, home to theatrically released movies, original TV shows, and documentaries, with some of the best shows on Epix as the best on television. The television network was owned by MGM, which meant it was also at the whim of whoever happened to own the famed studio at the time. The service became a part of the a-la-carte world, where people had to subscribe to Epix, similar to networks like Starz. After Amazon bought MGM from Lionsgate and Paramount in 2017, the network changed into MGM+ in 2023.

Regardless of who owned Epix, the network released some of the best-reviewed TV shows in recent years. This included a show set inside the DC Universe, with Alfred's longtime companion Alfred Pennyworth headlining his own show. The network also lured in major stars to work on and help create some of the best shows on Epix, including names like Forest Whitaker, Ben Kingsley, Wanda Sykes, and Adrien Brody. These include horror series, historical epics, dramas, comedies, and everything in between.

15 War Of The Worlds (2019- )

Gabriel Byrne & Elizabeth McGovern in War of the Worlds.

One of the most popular classic radio shows arrived as one of the best shows on Epix in 2019 with War of the Worlds. The series is based on the classic H.G. Wells novel that became an Orson Welles radio serial and then later one of Steven Spielberg's many sci-fi movies. The story follows a Martian invasion of Earth and stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Gabriel Byrne in the lead roles. The series reimagines the story, with humans finding a transmission from space followed by a devastating alien attack and the survivors setting up to fight for survival. With three seasons, the show has proven popular with Epix viewers and has realized its epic scope.

14 Deep State (2018-2019)

Joe Dempsie holding a gun in Deep State

Deep State was a spy series that premiered on Epix in 2018 and lasted for two seasons before ending. The show had a recognizable cast, with Mark Strong (Kingsman) as a former M16 field agent and Walton Goggins (Justified) as an ex-CIA operative. Strong plays Max, a man who ran a team comprised of M16 and CIA operatives who has been retired. However, he is pulled out of retirement when a mole is discovered in the new team, and he has to root him out. For anyone looking for an espionage drama where no one can be trusted, this is a well-acted addition to the genre.

13 Belgravia (2020)

Charles walks out of the ballroom in Belgravia

A wealthy family gets invited to the Duchess of Richmond's ball, two days before the infamous Battle of Waterloo. The secrets revealed during the night get to change history forever. Epix has poured millions into historical dramas and Belgravia doesn't disappoint either. With Downtown Abbey's Nigel Marchant and Gareth Neame serving as executive producers, there's a high pedigree to the production that can be felt in everything. There are multiple subplots and none of them feel unnecessary because the ensemble cast is large enough and capable enough to execute them.

12 Domina (2021- )

Livia Drusilla. meets Emperor Augustus' family in Domina

Yet another tale about Rome, Domina follows the life of Livia Drusilla. Viewers get to see her rise from a young girl right after Julius Caesar's assassination to her adult life as Emperor Augustus' wife. Domina shines above other historical dramas by examining things from a female perspective. Feminist angles are used unapologetically and as such, themes such as chauvinism and discrimination get touched on frequently. The production design is quite impressive too, giving viewers numerous little details to consider.

11 Berlin Station (2016-2019)

CIA agents monitor an ongoing operation in Berlin Station

A CIA analyst is thrust into fieldwork and gets sent to the agency's Berlin station. There, he uncovers large conspiracies that stretch all the way to Washington. Berlin Station can't be considered one of the best spy thrillers in recent years, but it's entertaining enough to satisfy fans of the genre. Part of what makes shows like these incredible is the ever-present corrupted agent and there are plenty of those here. As such, there's a constant sense of unpredictability, with the audience kept guessing about whom the next dirty person will be.

10 Graves (2016-2017)

Nick Nolte with the cast of Graves

It isn't all about dramas when it comes to the best shows on Epix. In 2016, the comedy Graves hit the network, with veteran actor Nick Nolte in the lead role. Nolte stars as Richard Graves, a former U.S. President who realizes 25 years after he served that his policies damaged the country for decades. This caused Graves to set out to right the wrongs of his presidency while his wife decides she will jump into politics herself. While Epix canceled the show after just two seasons, it remains a funny look at very serious political subject matter.

9 Get Shorty (2017-2019)

Miles meets his agent in Get Shorty

Hoping to make his daughter proud, a mafia enforcer decides to change careers and become a movie producer. But when he lands in Hollywood, his past life follows him. As one of the most cutting shows about Hollywood, this Elmore Leonard adaptation relies on deadpan humor to drive its narrative. Characters who would normally come off as intimidating end up being very funny. But even though humor shines through every episode, there is always a sense of danger too. The mafia is involved, after all.

8 Pennyworth (2019-2022)

Alfred attends a gala in London in Pennyworth

Bruce Wayne's butler, Alfred Pennyworth, is one of the most popular characters in superhero media and his early life is explored here. After forming his own security company, the former British SAS soldier goes on to work for Bruce's father, Thomas. Shows like Gotham and Smallville proved that DC does the best original tales and Pennyworth is no letdown either. Instead of the all too familiar American setting, the drama mostly keeps things in Britain. Spy themes are incorporated too, making it clear that this is not a tale about Batman but about the man who would serve him.

7 Perpetual Grace (2019)

The preacher argues with the grifter in Perpetual Grace

A young grifter tries to prey upon a town preacher and his wife. However, he finds out that they are much more lethal than he expected. Perpetual Grace cruises smoothly thanks to the talented cast that includes Ben Kingsley and Luis Guzman. The dialogue is rich and poetic too, and as such, there are many memorable lines. Fans of early 20th-century productions will also enjoy how black and white are constantly used, especially in the flashback scenes.

6 Condor (2018- )

CIA Agent Joe Turner flees from pursuers in Condor

A CIA analyst shows up in the office after a lunch break only to find everyone dead. To protect his own life, he goes on the run and manages to uncover a deep conspiracy. Condor mostly makes a case for itself as one of the best TV shows adapted from movies because of its fast pace. While popular espionage dramas like Homeland and The Americans slow down all too regularly, the Epix show never does that. Like a Hitchcock project, there is always an air of franticness and suspense.

5 SAS: Rogue Heroes (2022- )

The cast of SAS Rogue Heroes

SAS: Rogue Heroes (Rogue Heroes for short) is a drama series that follows the greatest Special Forces unit that the British Army created during World War II. The SAS (Special Air Service) operated behind enemy lines. The first season premiered in 2011 and the second shows the SAS in action during the European theater in World War II. While one of the best shows on Epix in the United States, it also aired on BBC One in the United Kingdom simultaneously. Each episode starts with the title card that it is "based on a true story," but the action and adventure almost make it hard to believe, although entirely entertaining.

4 Britannia (2018-2021)

General Aulus Plautius arrives in England in Britannia

This historical drama starts in 43 AD and follows Rome's General Aulus Plautius as he seeks to conquer England. However, he soon finds out that there is a big reason Julius Ceasar failed in such a similar quest. Britannia perfectly merges real-life occurrences and fantasy, making it ideal viewing for both history buffs and fans of fantasy shows like Game of Thrones. The show doesn't go slow on adult language and violence either. Furthermore, the themes are darker, with the only major problem being the slow unfolding of events compared to similar shows.

3 Chapelwaite (2021- )

Chapelwaite Why Whip Poor Wills Always Sing When The Vampires Appear

A captain relocates his family to a small town after his wife dies at sea and there he is forced to deal with dark historical events surrounding his family. The brilliance of Chapelwaite lies in how it spends a lot of time laying the foundation for the story it wants to tell. The show prepares audiences well before launching itself into full supernatural territory. Moreover, almost everything creates an eerie feeling, including the fact that most of the characters speak in harsh whispers. Horror and gothic fans will definitely enjoy it, especially since it is based on a world Stephen King created.

2 Godfather Of Harlem (2019- )

Bumpy and Congressman Powel discuss the Civil Rights movement in Godfather Of Harlem

Godfather of Harlem is a crime drama that follows Harlem crime boss Bumpy Johnson as he fights for control of New York with the Italian mafia, with events mostly occurring in the 1960s. Forrest Whitaker is one of the few actors who rarely give a bad performance and in Godfather of Harlem, he's made himself an Emmy contender. Apart from being a violent gangster story, the series also explores the Civil Rights Movement. Malcolm X is one of the best characters in Godfather of Harlem and his rise is as important to the plot as Bumpy's, with his presence giving viewers two different narratives to follow.

1 From (2022- )

A scene from the Epix series, From.

From is not only one of the best shows on Epix but one of the best genre shows on television today. This is a horror/science-fiction series that takes place in a small town in the middle of America where residents fight for survival with no way out. Harold Perrineau (Sons of Anarchy, Lost) plays the town's sheriff and mayor who tries to protect the people of a town that traps everyone who enters. This is not easy, as nocturnal creatures come from the forest, hunting down the residents. The show has one of the highest Rotten Tomatoes ratings for any Epix series (96%), weighing mystery and horror in a satisfying way for fans of either genre.
