The 3DS has delivered great longevity, becoming one of the best handhelds Nintendo has ever had. Given how successful Mario Kart was on the DS it only made sense that Nintendo would release one for the 3DS too.

Nintendo's Mario Kart 7 is one of the best Mario Kart games that offers new gameplay, such as introducing gliders which went on to be a major aspect of Mario Kart 8. While the game didn't sell quite as well as its prequel this is likely due to the DS having more overall sales than the 3DS.

Out of the New Super Mario Bros. trilogy, the first release on the DS was by far the most successful. This in part may have been due to the similar names of the other games with many players not realizing that they were all three in fact different games.

Regardless, New Super Mario Bros. outperformed the others and is the best-selling DS video game of all time with a total of 30.80 million units sold (per Nintendo). Players are taken through a basic and standard game that covers classic maps with many old returning power-ups like the Super Mushroom and the Fire Flower.

While many fans ended up discarding the wheel and resorted to playing with a Wii mote regularly or with a GameCube controller the game was still well-loved.

This game was only outsold by Wii Sports which is an unfair comparison given the game was released with most versions of the Wii. Regardless, Mario Kart Wii remains one of the best spin-off Mario games ever.

The Mario Kart games remain some of the most fun and addictive games in the franchise. While the Wii U version of Mario Kart 8 did not sell well, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Nintendo Switch did, reaching the highest numbers a Mario game has ever had (per Nintendo).

This is no doubt due to the poor sales of the Wii U, and it was a smart idea to rerelease the game on the Nintendo Switch given how successful the console's sales have been. This game gives a vast amount of characters, new takes on classic maps, and an amazing antigravity feature that can be utilized in all sorts of strategic ways. It's only a matter of time before a Mario Kart 9 is made, and it will no doubt sell even more copies than this game.
