Based on the trailers, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will feature at least two different versions of the Scarlet Witch, though could be more — and they could all wear different costumes. Wanda's MCU Scarlet Witch outfit is a beautiful interpretation of her classic comic book costume and there are many more that the MCU could realize in live-action with other variants.

The best Scarlet Witch costumes from Marvel Comics all build off the core concept, an instantly iconic look created by legendary artist Jack Kirby for her first appearance as a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants in X-Men #4. They continue to interpret and evolve the costume in new and unique ways, proving how timeless and adaptable the original costume was.

Silver Witch

The Silver Witch uses her powers in Marvel Comics.

The Silver Witch costume from the recent Heroes Reborn crossover event is one of the best Scarlet Witch costumes in the comics for how it combines a lot of different elements to create something new while also being a great throwback to a trial part of her design's past.

This version of Wanda is a fusion of the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver and has a stylized crest that echoes Pietro's bolt icon. She also wears green, a great nod to how she originally appeared on the cover of X-Men #4, her first appearance from 1964.

George Perez Late '90s

The Scarlet Witch features in some of the best George Perez comic books ever, and his late '90s costume for the character is one of the best for how dramatically it reimagines the traditional Wanda look. The costume borrows a lot of design elements from Romani culture including beads and bracelets to link Wanda closer to her past.

Aspects of these elements remain in place in her modern looks, but this version was distinctive in how dramatic a departure it was. Many of her '90s looks took Wanda far from her core costume, but this one brought her back while also providing something new.

Avengers West Coast

Immortus escorts a possessed Wanda as Quicksilver looks on in Marvel Comics.

The Scarlet Witch wears a couple of different costumes during her time with the West Coast Avengers in the late '80s, but one of the best is also one of her most unusual. She loses the crest for a W clasp that holds together her voluminous cape.

This Wanda also cuts her traditionally long hair, creating a completely unique look for her. She is controlled by Immortus, one of the most powerful variants of Kang the Conqueror, and someone she is likely to encounter in the multiverse in the MCU.

Scarlet Witch Unleashed

Scarlet Witch is possessed by Chthon in Marvel Comics.

The Scarlet Witch's cape would get bigger and bigger as time went on, and one of the most striking takes on the character — and one that is likely to influence the MCU — comes in Avengers #186 and #187 from the late 1970s. In this story, Wanda is possessed by Chthon.

This Wanda already seems to have influenced at least one of the variants of the Scarlet Witch in trailers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a dark Wanda without much of her signature iconography but all of her power.

Brotherhood Of Evil Mutants

Magneto, Toad, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, and Mastermind during the Brotherhood's first appearance.

The Scarlet Witch started off as one of the X-Men's most evil villains, and her original costume in X-Men #4 is one of the best Scarlet Witch costumes ever for establishing the baseline look of the character. The crest and cape are there from the start, with some key differences.

The head crest is a diamond shape that goes under her chin, a feature that would vanish relatively quickly in subsequent appearances. Wanda appears in all green on the cover of both issues four and five, but in the comics themselves, she is in her classic scarlet from the start.

Classic Costume

Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, and Scarlet Witch battle demons in Marvel Comics.

While the Scarlet Witch's costume has been evolving since the beginning, it's become one of the most iconic looks in Marvel Comics because of its core simplicity. Major elements remain unchanged in the costume to this day, including her classic bustier and cape design.

The crest often changes depending on artistic interpretation, but along with her red-and-pink color scheme, the classic costume Wanda has worn through her time as part of the best Avengers team rosters in Marvel Comics has remained the same.

Uncanny Avengers

Scarlet Witch uses her powers in Uncanny Avengers comics.

Wanda's costume from the Uncanny Avengers era is perhaps her most utilitarian and superheroic look, making it one of the best. Instead of one spandex look, the costume is different pieces and features more armor than any of her previous looks.

Wanda needed it in some of the best Avengers comics of the 2010s since she fought a lot of battles, mostly against her own teammates. This look also gave one of the most striking versions of her classic crest, pushing it into an iconic M shape.

X-Men: First Class

Scarlet Witch and Jean Grey go shopping in Marvel Comics.

One of the best Scarlet Witch costumes is a fantastic throwback to her original outfit, which captures the essence of why her look has become iconic. Her costume in 2011's X-Men: First Class is basically her main costume, with two major exceptions.

The first is the head crest, which has been minimized in this modern update of the X-Men origin story to a pair of cat ears. The second is the cape, which is much shorter than usual and contributes to a silhouette that is closer to Batgirl from DC Comics than Silver Age Scarlet Witch.

All-New, All-Different

The Scarlet Witch got a major upgrade in her costume for her 2015 solo series by writer James Robinson. It's one of the best costumes she's had in the comics for the way it integrates aspects of her Romani background into her classic crest in a unique beaded design.

Though Wanda's exact origin in the comics has been a point of contention, with several retcons moving the truth around over the years, this remains one of her most powerful looks thanks to the way it honors her past and brings her into the present.

Hellfire Gala

Wanda's 2022 Hellfire Gala look is brand new, but in many ways, it's her best costume. Artist Russell Dauterman skillfully blends different eras of the character into one powerful whole.

The Hellfire Gala costume combines design elements of her '90s costume with her 2015 look, creating something both contemporary and timeless. The way stars sparkle in her hair is an excellent nod to her truly cosmic power in the comics and now the MCU.
