Today on Twitter, Marvel released character posters of all(or most) of the characters that will be in Avengers: Endgame. While many fans were expecting to get posters of the characters they knew were alive or dead, Marvel gave fans a big surprise by revealing the fate of a few characters. It was revealed that Happy, Pepper Potts, and Valkyrie survived the snap, and it was also confirmed that Shuri did not. Fans, of course, are having a lot of feelings and reactions to this news. As Shuri has become a fast fan-favorite character, it’s safe to say that most people are not pleased about this reveal.

MARVEL BETTER WATCH OUT
If there’s one thing the internet can seem to agree on for once, it’s that Shuri didn’t deserve to be dusted. This tweet expresses that anger. This tweet, and many others like it, expressed frustration and anger at Marvel in a humorous way. Fans are not thrilled with this, and they want Marvel to know about it.
While Marvel won’t change anything and these tweets are done in jest, it does reveal the fact that many fans feel like they are at Marvel’s mercy and are worried about the final fate of their favorite characters.
CAN’T TRUST THE ACTORS
Shuri’s fate has been up in the air since the end of Avengers: Infinity War. She wasn’t shown at the end of the movie, and what happened to her wasn’t revealed until today. Many fans were hopeful that she had survived since Angela Bassett, who plays Queen Ramonda and Suri's mom, said that both Ramonda and Shuri survived the snap. Of course, since this movie is so secretive, even actors often don’t know the truth. And, even when they do, they are often forced to lie or misdirect in order to not give anything away.
WHY DOES MARVEL DO THIS?
Other fans already figured that Shuri was dead because of a moment in the first trailer for Endgame. In the first ever trailer, Bruce Banner is shown looking at a screen that is showing missing people. We see pictures of Peter Parker and Shuri up on the screen. This was a big hint that Shuri had been dusted, but many fans didn’t want to believe it. This tweet points out the emotions that many fans are feeling now that they know Shuri is officially gone.
CHADWICK MEME TO SHOW THE DISAPPOINTMENT
One of the best ways for fans to react to news about their favorite Marvel characters is using reaction memes. In this case, the meme chosen was a perfect fit.
This fan used a picture of Chadwick Boseman to relate their disappointment and frustration with the Shri news. The meme shows shock and fear as well as disappointment. On the bright side of this news, maybe we will see T’Challa and Shuri together in the souls stone?
LOOKING ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
While for the most part fans are feeling sad and angry, some are trying to look at the positives. Many fans have talked about wanting to see Shuri and Peter Parker be friends as they are both extremely smart and likely to be hip on the internet and with reference to youth culture. This tweet from a hopeful fan looks forward to a possible meeting and friendship between Peter and Shuri in the soul stone together.
MAYBE SHE’S REALLY ALIVE?
When it comes to Infinity War and Endgame, sometimes denial is the best way to cope. This fan isn’t quite sure if they believe this news since it seems like a big spoiler. Why did Marvel and the Russo brothers keep Shuri's fate a secret just to reveal it in such an offhand way? While it’s very unlikely that these posters are lying to fans, sometimes a bit of denial goes a long way. And, in the end, we don’t actually know what role Shuri will play in the movie. Maybe she will be important in helping the dusted heroes return.
SHURI WAS TOO POWERFUL
Another common reaction was that of expressing how Shuri is extremely smart and powerful. As the smartest person in the MCU, having Shuri’s help would be extremely important and useful to the Avengers.
Maybe she was dusted because she would be too valuable to the team and the story. On the other hand, maybe her expertise is needed in the soul stone or wherever the dusted heroes have gone. They might need someone as smart and capable of her on that side of things.
ANGRY KITTEN UNDERSTANDS
Sometimes, a picture says more than anything else. Reaction images can really show how fans are feeling about Shuri. This picture of a cute little kitten seemingly about to shoot a fake machine gun says a lot about where fans are at when it comes to this news. Fans are not happy, and they want to know what happened.
SHURI DESERVES BETTER!
Some fans were more frustrated by the fact that Shuri’s death wasn’t shown on screen than the fact that she has been dusted. It seems a little unfair that we don’t get to see an emotional moment of Shuri fading to dust on screen.
She is seemingly the only dusted hero we know about who wasn’t given any screen time in that moment, and fans are not here for that fact.
BASICALLY, FANS ALL WANT TO FIGHT
Overall, the thing that fans are feeling most strongly is the urge to fight. No one is loving the fact that Princess of Wakanda and smartest person in the MCU has been dusted. Fans aren’t thrilled that Wakanda lost both their King and their genius/princess. With so many loved heroes who have been dusted, this is just nearly one step too far for many Marvel fans.
