FIFA 23 has released its ratings for players featured in the game, and the best players in the game show a wide variety of high stats and abilities. Pace, shooting, dribbling, defense, and physicality are all important traits to score high in, and the top overall stars have elite skill and talent in all these categories. Owning the top spots as the best overall players are French Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema and Spanish Barcelona Women midfielder Alexia Putellas. Benzema makes an impressive jump, climbing 13 spots from FIFA 22 to number one with a 91 overall rating, tying Les Bleus teammate Kylian Mbappe, who shares the FIFA 23 cover with Sam Kerr. Putellas' rating also skyrocketed to the top as she earned a 92 overall rating after missing the top ten last year. Reigning UEFA Players of the Year Benzema and Putellas both post at least a 90 rating in positioning, ball control, and composure to go long with their high finishing ability, and all of these skills are important when putting the ball in the back of the net.
