Disney's acquisition of Star Wars has seen many a brilliant story created for canon from the comics to the movies to the video games to the novels. One cannot help but miss a lot of the phenomenal stories that were turned to "Legends" when said acquisition came to be. A lot of these stories which were so beloved by fans came from video games, some of the best.

Despite the quality of games like Battlefront II (2017) and Jedi: Fallen Order, the expanded universe still has a far better and more expansive game catalog. A lot of these video games have stories that would translate brilliantly onto film. So, here are 10 Star Wars expanded universe video games that we need to see adapted to film.

STAR WARS: DARK FORCES (1995)

The Death Star in Star Wars: Dark Forces

Dark Forces was released in 1995 and introduced fans to Kyle Katarn, a fan favorite of fans in the expanded universe. The game shows Kyle Katarn being hired by the Rebel Alliance to find the pieces that make up the Death Star plans following his defection from the Empire.

The problem with this is that Rogue One exists and is a great film. Nevertheless, Dark Forces is a great game with a fantastic story that would make an equally great movie. This is especially true with a character as brilliant as Katarn at the head of it all.

EMPIRE AT WAR (2006)

Empire At War is a real-time strategy game where the player takes the reigns of either the Galactic Empire or the Rebel Alliance in between Revenge Of The Sith and A New Hope. There is a campaign for each faction, both of which are build-ups to the Galactic Civil War.

This would not be a conventional game to movie transition as the story is not necessarily what would be made into the film, but rather the game in general. Seeing a movie on Disney+ following the war both on the ground and in the air, with tactics, death, real rebels and stormtroopers doing battle with ships, etc would be fantastic.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE UNLEASHED (2008)

The Force Unleashed Galen Star Destroyer

The Force Unleashed is a brilliant game with a similar quality story with a character in Starkiller that fans love. It shows Darth Vader takes a young Force-sensitive boy as his secret apprentice behind the Emperor's back and sends him on various missions.

While this will never happen, it would be great to see this story reimagined on-screen. This could be adapted differently with a few tweaks to the game, but either way, the premise alone would make a brilliant film for all fans. In saying that though, it is probably for the best Galen Marek is not canon considering his severe overpowered nature, but the story would still be great.

SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE (1996)

Gameplay image of Dash Rendar in Shadows of the Empire

Shadows Of The Empire is an amazing game that follows Dash Rendar on four separate missions. First on the Battle of Hoth as he attempts to escape, then it sees him searching for Boba Fett, from there he hunts a gang sent to Obi-Wan Kenobi's where Luke is training, and finally with Dash and other heroes rescuing Leia from Prince Xizor.

Dash Rendar has not been fleshed out in canon, at all. He is a great character in the game and seeing all this story on the big screen would be phenomenal. While the original trilogy cast would have to be recast, the story and characters, as well as the action would all make it worth it to see the story on screen.

JEDI KNIGHT II: JEDI OUTCAST (2002)

Star Wars Jedi Outcast Force Lightning

Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast is another great entry to the series which again follows the legendary Kyle Katarn. The game sees Kyle as a mercenary after severing his Force connection following a near fall to the dark side. But, throughout the game events unfold and Kyle is needed by Luke and the Jedi academy.

Jedi Outcast is arguably the best of the game series and fully deserves a movie to tell its story. Even ignoring the fact it would be insane to see Katarn in canon and a movie, the whole story of Jedi Outcast would make for a great movie to be put on Disney+, with minor tweaks to fit the new canon if need be.

STAR WARS: BATTLEFRONT/BATTLEFRONT II (2004/2005)

The original pair of Battlefront games are phenomenal and hold a place in many a fan's hearts who played them in what was a golden couple of years for Star Wars games. There were campaigns just following the plot of the saga, but mainly they were just fun immersive shooter games.

Similar to the earlier Empire At War entry the campaign is not what is wanted from an on-screen adaptation. Rather, a film that follows the battles of the Clone Wars era on the ground and air. While there is The Clone Wars, a movie from this would focus less on character and nothing on Jedi and would fully be about the battles and spectacle during the war, in the vein of Dunkirk.

STAR WARS: BOUNTY HUNTER (2002)

Jango Fett from Star Wars

An often underrated Star Wars game, Bounty Hunter would be fantastic for a Disney+ movie. The game follows Jango Fett and fills in the gaps of his story leading up to Attack Of The Clones.

A movie following one of the Fett's would be fantastic. While Boba is the better and obvious option, adapting Bounty Hunter into a movie would be fantastic and would only serve to improve the Jango character in the canon universe as well as building on Boba's young life.

THE OLD REPUBLIC (2011)

The Old Republic is an MMORPG taking place in its titular era following various stories from a plethora of characters all across the universe with classic expanded universe characters involved as well as many more in an exploration of the galaxy.

The times of the Old Republic era is something fans are clamoring to see on the big screen and one likely to come sooner rather than later. If Disney and Lucasfilm were to take what is given in The Old Republic game and turn it into a movie or a series of movies they would be fantastic and would add a deep layer to the canon universe that does not exist anywhere near that far in the past.

REPUBLIC COMMANDO (2005)

Boss, the leader of Delta Squad in Star Wars: Republic Commando, points to direct fire while an explosion goes off behind him.

In terms of Star Wars games that do not follow Force users, Republic Commando is the very best. The story of the game follows an elite squad of clone troopers - Boss, Scorch, Fixer, and Sev - known as Delta Squad who have been specially bred on Kamino as they embark on various missions during the Clone Wars.

Seeing a gritty, harsh, claustrophobic film following this elite crew of clone troopers as they embark on cross-planetary missions key to the victory of the Republic would be phenomenal. They are all great characters who do have a brief place in the canon, seeing them expanded on and fleshed out in a Republic Commando based film is needed.

STAR WARS: KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC (2003)

It was never going to be anything else sitting atop this list but the game that sits atop the mountain of Star Wars video games as the best of the best. Knights Of The Old Republic follows you as the hero uncovering secrets about your past while fighting Darth Malak and his destructive Sith army throughout a plot where your decisions influence your story.

While stories from The Old Republic on the big screen would be great, it would be so much better to see this game from the iconic era adapted. Everything about the game's story would fit perfectly in a film, from the characters to the layers of lore it would add and hopefully is being considered by Disney and Lucasfilm for not only a movie but a trilogy.
