With the release of Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, Doctor Strange has already made seven appearances in the MCU since his debut in 2016. Now the character, in general, has risen to new heights in popularity, which makes it the perfect time to go back and play as him in video games.

Doctor Strange has appeared in several games over the years, with some titles capturing the magic of the Sorcerer Supreme long before the MCU did. And some have been clearly influenced by Benedict Cumberbatch's portrayal, making them just as perfect to play after seeing the new movie, while others will enable players to explore the more comic-driven side of the hero.

Upcoming: Marvel's Midnight Suns (TBD)

Marvel's Midnight Suns is expected in 2022

A game to look forward to featuring Doctor Strange is the Marvel's Midnight Suns videogame based on the Marvel team of the same name. Rather than a typical action-based superhero adventure, Midnight Suns is embracing a turn-based tactical strategy game.

That should be no surprise considering it is being developed by Firaxis Games, the same team behind the XCOM series. Doctor Strange has already been confirmed to be a character alongside Wolverine, Ghost Rider, Blade, and many other darker heroes.

Fortnite (2017)

Technically, Fortnite is not a Marvel game, but it does feature a plethora of Marvel characters from Spider-Man to Thor. In Season 2 of Chapter 3, fans were given two new Marvel characters: Prowler and Doctor Strange.

Strange comes with several skins via the Battle Pass along with many Doctor Strange-themed equipment and emotes. Fans can enjoy the character, even though he doesn't come with any of his mystical abilities since all Fortnite characters play identically.

Of course, it features Doctor Strange as a playable character and he adds an extra bit of flavor to the fast-paced and hectic tournament fighter. He's one of the slower melee fighters but he makes up for it with deadly projectiles and other special attacks, fitting for a sorcerer like himself.

Marvel Contest Of Champions (2014)

Mobile games are not everyone's cup of tea, but they can provide a fun experience. Marvel Contest Of Champions has one of the largest rosters of all Marvel tournament fighters, including multiple variants of different characters. Within the roster is indeed Doctor Strange and his magic-based attacks.

Like with all other characters, there isn't a lot of complexity to Doctor Strange. It's a lot of button mashing, similar to the Mortal Kombat mobile game, which can lead to a lot of fun and can likely satisfy that itch to play as Stephen Strange.

Marvel Strike Force (2018)

Doctor Strange, Baron Mordo, Wong, Scarlet Witch, and other mystical Marvel characters are unlockable in Marvel Strike Force. Marvel Strike Force is a solid turn-based RPG for all ages. Can it be a little too reliant on grinding and micro-transactions? Yes, but the prior can be fun.

The current state of Marvel Strike Force has a plethora of campaigns to play through, season passes, and a large roster of characters to make into teams. For every annoying grindfest of a day, there will be fun days with lots of wins and rewards combined with thoughtful RPG gameplay that can be as fun as it is difficult.

Marvel Future Revolution (2021)

The newest addition to the long list of free-to-play mobile games, Marvel Future Revolution surprised gamers. Even those that don't care for mobile gaming gave props Future Revolution for providing an open-world RPG on the phone. Unlike other mobile games, Doctor Strange is one of the base characters to start with.

This game provides the most customization for Doctor Strange, thanks to the different costumes and colors that can be mixed and matched to create the player's dream Doctor Strange. Strange is already considered one of the most powerful playable characters in Future Revolution.

There are more characters, the story is broader, there are more worlds to explore, and Doctor Strange is definitely a playable character as well as a major character in the story.

It's the standard affair of breaking LEGO pieces, collecting lego studs, solving puzzles, and more, but Doctor Strange has his own unique abilities. He, as well as other mystic-based characters, are also essential for solving puzzles and 100% completion of the game.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order (2019)

After so many years, Marvel fans finally got a third Ultimate Alliance game, but with one catch: it is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch. Still, it is really the only readily available Ultimate Alliance game currently and allows fans to continue the dungeon crawling adventure with a wide variety of Marvel heroes.

It may not reach the same level as its predecessors but it was a welcome comeback for the once-dormant franchise. Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch are available, representing their comic book portrayals and showcasing how powerful they areas two of the game's show-stealing powerhouses.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance (2006)

Not only is Doctor Strange a playable character, but he ends up being one of the most pivotal characters in the campaign. The Sanctum Sanctorum becomes the home base for the Ultimate Alliance in one of the game's acts, allowing the player to interact with characters such as Wong.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance remains an iconic part of Marvel gaming history due to it being one of the first games to feature such a massive roster. It was a dungeon-crawling RPG that made a Marvel universe feel alive years prior before even the first Iron Man movie. Unfortunately, as previously mentioned, unless someone has a copy for older consoles, it is a rare game.
