With that many characters to explore, it can be difficult to know which characters are best for new players to take with them on missions. In order to find every secret in the game, players will need access to as many special abilities as possible, and some of the game's characters have plenty, making them some of the best the game has to offer.

Butterball

Butterball - Butterball Posing

There are plenty of heroes with more abilities than the ever-positive fanboy Butterball, but this hero still stands out among Lego Marvel's Avengers' roster for his small, unique, set of abilities. The Marvel Comics character Butterball is a relatively minor character whose main power is his invulnerability.

Butterball fights enemies with a frying pan in the game, while also completely immune to all kinds of damage, a distinction bestowed on only a few playable characters in the whole game. Unfortunately, Butterball doesn't have the combat or movement skills to make him useful in every situation, but he's still a potentially powerful character.

Blue Marvel

Blue Marvel - Blue Marvel Posing

Known to Marvel Comics fans recently for being a part of the Ultimates, Blue Marvel is still pretty new to the Marvel universe compared to many other franchise mainstays. His abilities are translated into one of the more powerful and unique characters that Lego Marvel's Avengers has to offer.

Blue Marvel has several notable abilities in this game, including electricity in combat, super strength, and flight. He even has the ability to regenerate health, but what makes him stand out is that he is one of a handful of playable characters who is completely immune to all kinds of damage.

Count Nefaria

Count Nefaria - Count Nefaria Close Up

As an Avengers nemesis straight out of the comics, Count Nefaria may not be very familiar to fans of the movies, but his strengths in this game show off just how powerful of an enemy he can be. Players can unlock him by finding his character token, at which point his slew of abilities will be at their disposal.

Count Nefaria's laser-based attacks are certainly a draw, but his other abilities are just as impressive. With Count Nefaria, players can deal with gold and cracked Lego objects throughout the game, as well as use telekinesis and mind control abilities, along with several other powers available to this baddie.

Sentry

An incredibly powerful and potentially dangerous presence in Marvel Comics, Sentry and his many abilities have been carried over into Lego Marvel's Avengers. While his Lego form does not have quite the long list of powers that his comics version does, Sentry is still a very useful character in the game.

In addition to a slew of acrobatic navigational abilities and combat-ready lasers, Sentry has access to a number of other abilities, including flight, super strength, and mind control. Sentry also has the unique ability to build Lego constructions throughout the game at high speed.

Spider-Man (Miles Morales)

Spider Man - Miles Morales In And Out Of Spidey Suit

Included with the free Spider-Man DLC are many Spider-Man-related characters, including Peter Parker and, of course, Miles Morales. While each of these characters brings along a slew of useful abilities, Miles Morales brings the most to the table with a wide breadth of abilities both in his Spidey-suit and as ordinary teen Miles Morales.

Miles Morales can swap between these two forms and access different abilities, including acrobatic movements, web-swinging, and the all-important Spidey Sense. Of course, Miles' signature abilities are also present, including stealth and the ability to shock enemies when in his suit.

Korvac

Korvac - Korvac Standing On Helicarrier

One of the deeper cuts in Lego Marvel's Avengers massive roster, Korvac is an incredibly powerful cyborg villain who is a major antagonist for many Marvel Comics heroes. In the game, Korvac wields powerful energy attacks and must be defeated in an optional boss battle in order to unlock him for play.

Korvac has many area-access abilities, due to his cyborg nature, including the ability to use technology and wade through damaging substances, like fire and goo. His other abilities, including electric attacks, telekinesis, and flight, make him quite a useful character for unlocking the game's secrets.

Ultron (Ultimate)

Ultron - Ultron In Sokovia

Surpassing even Loki and Thanos in terms of pure breadth of abilities, Avengers: Age Of Ultron villain Ultron's Ultimate form is one powerful character. After facing him as a boss in story mode, players will soon enough have the chance to play around with his abilities for themselves.

Most notably, this version of Ultron can destroy, cut, and melt several kinds of special Lego pieces throughout the game's levels, and he has access to abilities like scanning, repairing, and using technology that can all unlock secrets. On the more superpowered end, Ultron can fly, regenerate his health, and resist several types of damage.

Squirrel Girl

Squirrel Girl - Squirrel Girl And Squirrelbuster Armor

It's well-established among Marvel fans at this point that one should not underestimate Squirrel Girl, despite her seemingly nonthreatening abilities and name, as she has defeated many powerful villainsLego Marvel's Avengers continues that trend by giving the hero a whole slew of helpful abilities to navigate levels and find secrets.

Not only can Squirrel Girl use her squirrels in combat, but she can also double jump, dig, and climb walls, among other things, making her quite the mobile hero. She's got power, too, as she can use the Squirrelbuster armor to gain super strength and other destructive abilities.

Tony Stark/Iron Man

Tony Stark - Tony Stark And Iron Man Armor

On his own, Tony Stark has relatively few abilities compared to some of the other characters in Lego Marvel's Avengers. What makes him one of the most useful and powerful heroes in the game, though, is his ability to don a number of different suits of Iron Man armor.

Over the course of the game's story, players will unlock new suits of armor that Tony can call upon, each with their own sets of abilities, including the powerful Hulkbuster armor, with its immunity from damage and ability to fly. The DLC also includes a handful of new suits and abilities for the hero.

Stan Lee

Stan Lee - Stan Lee With Hammer

The late great Marvel Comics writer and consistent cinematic cameo Stan Lee makes appearances throughout the Lego Marvel games, and this one is no exception. Players will first encounter him in "Stan Lee In Peril" missions, in which they have to rescue him from various dangers.

Once all of these missions have been completed, players will have access to Stan Lee and all of his abilities. He has most of the game's major abilities at his disposal, including scanning, grappling, telekinesis, and, of course, the ability to transform into Excelsior Hulk, a Stan Lee version of the green giant, among others.
