The upcoming romantic comedy, Ticket to Paradise, starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts, is scheduled for release in the U.S. on October 21, 2022. Hollywood welcomed Julia Roberts in 1987 and 35 years later she's still doling out blockbusters.

Roberts has appeared in about 45 films and has one Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, and three Golden Globe Awards under her belt. For most of the 1990s and the first half of the 2000s, she was the highest-paid actress in the world and the majority of her highest-rated films on IMDb are from that same decade.

Pretty Woman (1990) - 7.1

Julia Roberts and Richard Gere in Pretty Woman

Julia Roberts' portrayal of Vivian Ward earned her a Golden Globe Award and a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress, propelling her to fame. The romantic comedy Pretty Woman was originally intended to be a dark story about sex work and class, but it was later re-conceived.

Julia Roberts plays the role of a sex worker who receives a significant income boost after running into Richard Gere's cold and lonely businessman, Edward Lewis, one evening. The chemistry between the two is compelling. Roberts excels in romantic comedies, and Vivian Ward is one of her most endearing lead performances. Her persona is such that every viewer will find themselves rooting for her.

Michael Collins (1996) - 7.2

Kitty Kiernan, Michael Collins, and Boland in Michael Collins

In the historical biopic of Irish revolutionary Michael Collins, Julia Roberts portrays Kitty Kiernan. Even though Kitty is not Roberts' best performance, her endeavor is noteworthy. She plays the fiancé of the famous Irish revolutionary commander and hero, played by Liam Neeson, one of his most vengeful characters.

Julia Roberts can be heard mixing her Irish accent with American throughout the film. However, her acting is still respectable. Her character did need further development with an explanation about her involvement in the revolution, but the film is worth watching for history enthusiasts, even if Julia Roberts fans might be a little disappointed with her performance.

August: Osage County (2013) - 7.2

Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts in a car in August: Osage County

Based on Tracy Letts' Pulitzer Prize-winning 2007 play of the same name, August: Osage County is an excellent tragicomedy. Julia Roberts plays the role of Barbara Weston, soon-to-be-divorced eldest daughter of the dysfunctional matriarch, Violet Weston. Julia received a nomination for Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role.

Since the movie revolves around a dysfunctional family, all the characters are complex. Julia brings maturity to her role and gives arguably the best supporting performance of her career. She does a superb job of bringing sensitivity, emotions, and tension to her character. The plot pivots on her, and the anti-chemistry between her and Meryl Streep is masterful.

Closer (2004) - 7.2

Another film adapted from a celebrated play is Closer, a romantic drama by Patrick Marber. In the narrative, two hurting couples make poor relationship decisions and fall for each other's partners. Julia Roberts portrays Anna Cameron as a flawed, selfish, and emotionally immature character. Although she delivers fantastic acting, supporting actors like Natalie Portman steal the show in one of her most iconic roles as Alice.

Although Julia's performance is understated, viewers nonetheless praise the plausibility of her acting. She charges with captivating power through each of her scenes and amid their more vapid and defective aspects, she has many fascinating moments. Her character is compellingly written, accurately portraying many individuals in her situation.

Notting Hill (1999) - 7.2

The film's brilliant theme — love between people of different social classes — is beautifully portrayed by Robert's and Grant's strong chemistry. Although Anna is attractive and prosperous, she is insecure and concerned about losing her reputation and riches and her inability to build meaningful relationships with men. As a Hollywood star herself, Julia does an excellent job portraying the role.

Steel Magnolias (1989) - 7.3

Steel Magnolias is the film adaptation of Robert Harling's 1987 play of the same name. The relationships between six ladies who frequent the same beauty salon are the subject of this lovely comedy-drama, one of the most powerful female-lead movies on Netflix. In the Best Actress in a Supporting Role category, Julia Roberts received an Oscar nod for her work as Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie.

Julia plays a young diabetic lady who believes that risking everything for a child is worthwhile. Roberts' health issues glue all six women together, despite their many differences and sporadic cattiness. Julia gives a stunning performance that inspires both tears and laughter. It is straightforward but full of power, humanity, and a serene acceptance of a situation she cannot change.

Erin Brockovich (2000) - 7.4

Julia Roberts in Erin Brockovich

Erin Brockovich is Julia Roberts' Oscar-winning performance that any acting critic will never forget. In this biographical legal drama movie, she plays a jobless, twice-divorced mother of three trying to find a means to support her family. There is no melodrama in Erin Brockovich, and it deals with a lot of relevant topics. Her role is passionately dynamic, testing her skills in every way possible.

The most complex character in Julia's career, Erin showcases her abilities in comedy, drama, and romance all at once. Julia's acting is realistic, and her range is terrific in the film. There seems to be a link between Julia and Erin, and no other actress could play the part as well as she does.

Ocean's Eleven (2001) - 7.7

Tess and Terry in audience in Ocean's Eleven

Ocean's Eleven is a remake of the 1960 Rat Pack film of the same name -- a heist-comedy with an all-star cast. Tess Ocean (Roberts) is introduced in the training act along with other subplots. She portrays Ocean's ex-wife, and is dating the owner of the casino they are attempting to loot.

Any actress might have played Julia's role because she doesn't have a lot to do in the film. But she still made the best of her small part and did what it demanded. Her persona as a talented actor is still apparent in the film, but she could have used a role that better explores her talent.

The Normal Heart (2014) - 7.9

There is a charm about Julia Roberts as a doctor that fits her perfectly. Julia portrays Dr. Emma Brookner in the 2014 television drama movie, The Normal Heart, which is about the early stages of the AIDS crisis. She is a tenacious doctor who suffered from polio and was among the first in the nation to treat gay men for the illness.

Because Julia pushes for change despite several obstacles and setbacks, her character has hope. Her persona is endearing and deserving of admiration for its compassion. Her outstanding acting helped make her portrayal convincing of someone who wanted to support and spread knowledge about HIV-AIDS, but instead received rejection and ostracism. It is both inspiring and heart-breaking.

Wonder (2017) - 7.9

Julia Roberts with Jacob Tremblay in the movie Wonders (2017)

Based on the 2012 novel by R. J. Palacio, Wonder is a coming-of-age drama film that follows a boy named August Pullman with Treacher Collins syndrome. Julia Roberts plays the role of August's mother, Isabel, and her character excels as a loving mother who is fascinating in and of itself.

She chooses to enroll her kid in a public school, much to her husband's chagrin, because he worries about August's treatment by his classmates. She sets an example as a strong mother in the movie, while being as luminous and radiant as ever.
