The holiday season on the horizon and with it comes a new console generation. Sony's long-anticipated PlayStation 5 has finally arrived. For those who are particularly flush, the PS5 would be as good a gift as can be given for many people. But, for those who are likely to already have gotten hold of the console, there are plenty of other great gift options to go with it.

The PS5 ushers in a new era of gaming. It comes in two models — one has a disc drive and the other plays only digital games. Other than that, they have the same processor with integrated CPU/GPU for stunning visuals running at 4K. And both models have an identical high-speed SSD with integrated I/O for incredibly fast loading and 825 GB of storage. The PS5 is also backward compatible with most PS4 games, with only a handful of titles not able to be transferred across.

Needless to say, there are a host of accessories that go with the PS5 and most would make great gifts for a Ps5 owner. But there are three in particular that new PS5 owners would absolutely love. These are accessories that further enhance the experience of what is an already great piece of kit.

PS5 Controller

A PS5 DualSense controller

Despite being the most advanced PlayStation ever, the PS5 still only comes with one controller in the box (even though the charging station can fit two). A great gift to start with for a new PS5 owner is another controller so that they play with another person. It also means they'll have a spare controller for when the battery dies in their first one from an all-night gaming session.

PlayStation 4 PS Plus Collection

PlayStation Plus (PS Plus), meanwhile, is a paid subscription service for the PS4 that gives users online multiplayer mode for certain games, two free games a month, access to Share Play screen sharing, an additional 100 GB of cloud storage, themes, exclusive DLC, and discounts in the Store. In short, a year’s subscription costs $60 and works out at 24 games, making it a fantastic deal. The service will be continued for the PS5, although free PS5 games will not be available just yet. Free PS4 games will continue to be offered for now until Sony announces otherwise. In addition to the current features, Sony will also provide the PS Plus Collection, which is a collection of fan-favorite PS4 titles at no extra cost. The collection includes Bloodborne, Final Fantasy XV, Resident Evil 7, and more.

PlayStation VR

PlayStation VR headset

A final suggestion is PlayStation VR, or PSVR for short, which is Sony’s answer to virtual reality released for the PS4 back in October 2016. The headset has a 5.7-inch OLED panel and displays at 1080p. Currently, none of the PS5 games at launch or announced will support PSVR, but the PS4 versions of those games will. The PS5 does seem well suited for VR due to its support of 3D audio and Unreal Engine 5.

Those are three great gifts for new PS5 owners. They’ll be very happy to head into this new console generation with the best accessories possible. And this is barely the launch of the system, with more new tech and accessories yet to come.
