Gastrodon is a Ground-/Water-type Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that is helpful for Tera Raids due to its bulk and Ability Storm Drain. This Pokémon has many resistances, which aid in defending it against certain moves. However, that being said, Gastrodon also has a 4x weakness to Grass-type moves, so be advised of this when selecting it in certain Tera Raid Battles. With recovery moves and the right Tera Type Gastrodon is unstoppable.

The location of Shellos, Gastrodon's pre-evolved form, determines its coloring. Pink Shellos are found near the West Sea, close to the North Province beaches, and Blue Shellos can be found near the East Sea beaches, close to the South Provinces in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. After catching a Shellos on the beach, raise it to level 30 to watch it evolve. Gastrodon can also be found in Gastrodon-Shellos families so that trainers can catch them on their own.

Speed Timid Mint in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Trainers engaging in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Tera Raids should build on Gastrodon's HP and Special Attack. Firstly, trainers need to Hyper Train every one of Gastrodon's stats except physical Attack as Gastrodon doesn't need to use physical moves. Next, the Effort Values of Gastrodon should be 252 HP and Special Attack points, respectively, with the remaining four points into Defense or Special Defense. Finally, to continue maximizing Gastrodon's Special Attack stat, give Gastrodon a Modest Nature Mint in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Gastrodon's Tera Types and Ability

How to change a Pokémon's Tera Type in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Gastrodon can give itself a different Tera Type with Water-type immunities in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet since it has the ability, Storm Drain. This is helpful because Water-type moves are then converted to a Special Attack boost which can take an opponent out faster. Furthermore, by changing its Tera Type to Fire-, Gastrodon can also eliminate its 4x weakness to Grass-type moves. However, Pokémon YouTuber @IamAncient claims a Ground-Tera Type Gastrodon is the best at soloing the Greninja Tera Raids because Earth Power can deal a devastating blow.

Gastrodon's Moves and Held Items

Gastrodon's held items are Metronome or Soft Sand for Tera Raids

Much like its physical attacking counterpart Clodsire in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Tera Raids, Gastrodon needs a recovery move and a Ground-type same type attack bonus move. However, in the case of Gastrodon, Earth Power, deals Special Attack damage, and instead of Yawn (the move in common with Clodsire), Gastrodon should be given the move Clear Smog to cleanse its opponents of any stat boosts.

Additionally, Gastrodon should be given a defensive boosting move like Stockpile, which maxes out all Defense and Special Defense stats after three uses. Therefore, the moves on Gastrodon should be Recover, Earth Power, Clear Smog, and Stockpile. Finally, due to Gastrodon only having one significant attacking move, Earth Power (much like the TM Earthquake TM149), give it a Metronome or Soft Sand to increase its power.

Gastrodon Raids Turn By Turn

Gastrodon should Terastallize to Ground-type for Tera Raids.

In a Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Tera Raid, where Gastrodon is the attacker, use Stockpile to boost Gastrodon's defensive stats. Continue with this until Gastrodon can tank a hit without spending many power points on Recover. When an opponent gets too boosted, release a Clear Smog to stop it from knocking Gastrodon out quickly. Finally, to charge up the Metronome's power, use Earth Power consecutively until its Tera Orb is charged. Terastallize Gastrodon to boost its Ground-type moves and see significant damage to the opponent.
