The powerful (and expensive) wireless headset is something I've used for years in gaming, streaming, and podcasting and the latest model is the best yet coming with a Base Station, interchangeable ear cushions, and up to 15 hours of battery life. Best Budget Gaming Headset: SteelSeries Arctis 3

In November, SteelSeries - who make the most comfortable headsets on the market - unveiled the latest version of their Arctis 3 line which for the first time introduced a bluetooth wireless variant in 2017 that also doubles as a wired gaming headset (can be used on PC, PS4, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and for VR) like the standard 3s. The new Arctis 3 from the makers of the incredible Arctis 7 can even take in audio from both sources at the same time and is built for audio, meaning SteelSeries is bridging the gap for console players who want to use Discord as their gaming chat solution.

The Arctis 3 is one of the best sounding headsets in its price range, though the bluetooth variant does bump up the price over the standard Arctis 3 quite a bit. Unlike the 5 and 7 series though, the Arctis 3 does not feature USB so the 3.5mm jack keeps it simple and multi-platform-friendly, but does complicate things when it comes to using SteelSeries software for customization (and it doesn't have that nifty light to know when you're muted).

The sound on the Arctis 3 is just as good as the best headsets from SteelSeries, it's super comfortable and lightweight and it's got a great mic in SteelSeries' ClearCast microphone, making it an easy recommendation as a reliable, multi-purpose audio or gaming headset solution.

The standard Arctis 3 (which comes in red, blue, grey, white, and black) retails for $79.99. The Arctis Bluetooth retails for $129.99 and is only available in grey/black.

Best Esports Gaming Mice: SteelSeries Rival 310 & Sensei 310

The most impressive hardware meeting I've ever had in this industry is with SteelSeries, multiple times, many years ago. They took the time to break down all the work and history that goes into the parts and materials used in their products which is why they've always been elite when it comes to gaming mice. The Rival 310 and ambidextrous Sensei 310 are shining examples of this thanks to their industry-leading mechanic switches (click them bad boys 50 million times, we dare you!), their 1-to-1 esports sensor, their exclusive split-trigger mouse button design, and ergonomic and lightweight design.

What does all that mean? These gaming mice are part of the SteelSeries TrueMove line and use sensors for the most accurate, perfect tracking for performance, range, and accuracy all at ultra-low latency.

TrueMove3 is a 12,000 CPI, 350 IPS optical sensor built exclusively with industry leader PixArt. Instead of focusing on CPI alone, TrueMove3 was engineered for true 1-to-1 tracking. Moving a specific distance on a mousepad results in the same exact distance on screen, without introducing latency, interpolation, or affecting jitter reduction.

Some Features:

  • Only 88.3g in weight
  • Gaming's first pure silicone side grips for a lifetime of handling.
  • Fingerprint resistant semi-rough matte top finish.
  • Fiber-reinforced plastics make for a lighter yet stronger mouse construction.
  • Exclusive split-trigger button design providing excellent click force and consistent feel during burst firing, rapid presses or holds.
  • Save all your performance and lighting settings directly to the mouse. A Powerful 32-bit ARM processor allows you to save CPI settings, button remappings and lighting effects on-board for software-free use at LAN events and tournaments.

The Rival 310 and Sensei 310 (the ambidextrous variant) each retail for $59.99 and come with a free SteelSeries QcK Vector mousepad.

Best High-Res Audio Headset: ROCCAT Khan Pro

The only headset we've seen this year designed for games that features high-res audio is Roccat's Khan Pro, a piece of hardware catered towards esports players and core gamers. It's extremely durable and flexible, designed for every head shape, and with its 3.5mm jack, can be used on any platform.

Designed for the needs of esports champs, the Khan Pro truly sets a new industry standard. It's the first Hi-Res Audio compatible gaming headset and it delivers richer highs, mids & lows so you can pinpoint opponent locations with ease. Its high speed drivers eliminate lag and muddiness, and its passive noise cancelation means it works great even in noisy environments.

Best Customizable Gaming Mouse: ROCCAT Kone AIMO

The successor to Roccat's first ever product, the Kone, the all-new Kone AIMO aims to be something as special as its ancestor, especially when it comes to its looks. The original Kone introduced the industry to multi-color illumination and the new AIMO takes that to the next level with four light strips and a glowing mousewheel, all of which react intuitively and organically to use with its state-of-the-art illumination scenarios.

But more than looks, the ROCCAT Kone AIMO is ergonomic and designed for medium-to-large handed gamers with plenty of customization, including the ability to add secondary functions to the mouse's buttons. Like the SteelSeries line, Roccat's own software (Swarm) allows for simple commands and complex macros. And also like SteelSeries, when it comes to precision, the Kone AIMO features a powerful sensor:

The Owl-Eye is the new optical sensor from PixArt, modified to the high and exacting standards of ROCCAT®. Taking its inspiration from the natural world, it boasts a real and responsive feeling that's instantly recognizable. The sensor can be configured in terms of the ROCCAT®-pioneered Distance Control Unit (DCU), with the dpi adjustable in 100-dpi steps from 100 to 12000, although we recommend a 400 3000dpi range as optimal.

The Kone AIMO also features a tri-button thumb zone for a new and even greater level of control. Pair the Kone AIMO with a ROCCAT Kanga mousepad for the complete experience.

The latest gaming headsets from Turtle Beach do wireless right, but lose marks in sound quality. Their ear cushions fit comfortable for long sessions of play and it comes with a great flip-to-mute mic and a few bonus sound features (chat boosts, mic monitoring, superhuman hearing option).

The TURTLE BEACH® STEALTH 700 is the latest premium gaming headset for Xbox One, debuting Microsoft's new Xbox Wireless technology and Windows Sonic surround sound, plus active noise-cancellation and Bluetooth connectivity to the new Turtle Beach Audio Hub app. The STEALTH 700 features an all-new modern style and delivers immersive surround sound plus chat audio through powerful 50mm over-ear speakers, and features Turtle Beach's renowned high-sensitivity mic that can be flipped-up to mute. Best Wireless Xbox One Gaming Headset: Razer Thresher

The Razer Thresher has changed our life when playing on Xbox One, and trust us, we play a lot of competitive gaming on the Xbox One X. It's comfortable, flexible, lightweight and has wonderful sound to go with a long battery life. Our only gripe is some occasional low mic volume but it's otherwise very clear. Once you pair this nifty headset to your Xbox One, it's as easy as turning on your controller and we couldn't recommend it more. It's our go-to Xbox One headset.

The Razer Thresher for Xbox One is the complete dongle-free wireless audio solution. On top of delivering lag-free audio immersion, this premium headset also focuses on undisputable comfort. Lined with leatherette, the lightweight memory foam ear cushions rest perfectly against your head, giving you a natural feel that is second to none. The Thresher can maintain its connection up to 20 feet and utilizes Windows Sonic - Microsoft's latest in Surround technology. For the complete package, consider the Station and Headphone Stand that come with the Ultimate edition.

The Razer Thresher retails for $149.99.

Most Hardcore Xbox One Gaming Headset: RIG 800LX

Most of the headsets we've looked at in 2017 feature 10-15 hours or some such similarly impressive number for a wireless unit. Plantronics however, blows all of them away in battery life witht he RIG 800LX. Designed for Xbox One, the RIG 800LX has a 24 hour battery which we still can't quite comprehend.

Amplified audio with matched 40 mm drivers brings the soundstage to life. Low frequency resonators reinforce bass and limit distortion. Voice feedback lets you monitor your outgoing levels and quality and the noise-cancelling mic ensures your teammates hear you, not the room you're in. When you're done with talk, just flip up the mic to mute it.

It's a mid-range headset like Turtle Beach's Stealth 700 and Razer's Thresher, but where those connect at the touch of a button, the RIG 800LX does require use of the included USB connected wireless base (it also works on PC). Still, it's a small price to pay for the techy ultralight headset which supports Dolby Atmos and all of the audio controls are on the headset itself unlike Plantronics' RIG 400LX and RIG 600LX.

Memory-foam ear cushions combat wearing fatigue and increase sound isolation for an immersive experience. The light, durable frame includes a self-adjusting head strap that evenly distributes weight to decrease pressure. RIG 800LX has multiple adjustment points to achieve a fit that lets you perform at your best, without tying you down or tangling you up.

The Plantronics RIG 800LX retails for $149.99.
