Game of Thrones not only shaped the fantasy genre, but has been regarded as one of the best shows in television history. Based on George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire, the HBO series has made incredible strides in the way of storytelling, costume design, acting, and cinematography.

Regardless of the series' less-than-satisfying ending, it is still beloved by millions around the world, with fans constantly revisiting the original magic. Users of Reddit have declared which Game of Thrones episodes are the absolute best.

The Dragon And The Wolf

Season 7, Episode 7

While many feel that season 7 was the beginning of the end for Game of Thrones, Redditor Sharpe24J thinks that the episode "The Dragon and the Wolf" is "one of the best episodes and finales". Season 7's finale was the Westerosi equivalent to the NFL Pro Bowl with all the main players culminating together.

One of the most intense moments was the meeting between now bitter rivals Daenerys Targaryen and Cersei Lannister. The episode ended on a note of ice and fire, seeing The Night King burning down the wall via resurrected Viserion to attack the Seven Kingdoms.

A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms

Season 8, Episode 2

While many think Game of Thrones isn't worth finishing, the final season wasn't without a stand-out episode or two. Similar to the dragon and the wolf and the lion and the rose, season 8's second episode showed several familiar faces and shining scenes. Redditor GenXer1997 "legit shed a tear or two when Jaime knighted Brienne".

The episode provides a myriad of emotions. There is happiness to see all these characters from opposite ends of the spectrum coming together for a greater cause, with the grim reality of the upcoming war making things very bittersweet.

Baelor

Season 1, Episode 9

Reddit user mill-von-cat-jack feels that "Baelor" is one of the show's best episodes. One of the most important GoT deaths would come in the form of Ned Stark (Sean Bean), the patriarch of house Stark and Lord of Winterfell. Ned swears loyalty to Joffrey Bratheon (Jack Gleeson), despite knowing the new king's true parentage.

Even though he confessed to treason, Joffrey turned the tables by having Ned executed. The death of Ned Stark not only kick-started started Game of Thrones' trend of having a major event in a season's penultimate installment, but shows that no character is safe.

The Dance Of Dragons

Season 5, Episode 9

Game of Thrones' penultimate episodes have become staples within the series, and it will be interesting to see if House of the Dragon follows the same course. Reddit user Textbookville selected "The Dance of Dragons" for an epic Game of Thrones episode.

In true penultimate fashion, the episode featured both a devastating death and brutal bloodshed. Audiences were devastated to see Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane) sacrificing his adorably precocious daughter Shireen (Kerry Ingram) for his pursuit of the Iron Throne. Their jobs would then drop over the ferocious battle of a recently returned Drogon versus The Sons of The Harpy.

The Lion And The Rose

Season 4, Episode 2

This deleted Reddit user selected "The Lion and the Rose" for one of Game of Thrones best episodes. The second episode of season 4 would feature the poisoning death of King Joffrey Baratheon at his wedding to Princess Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer), being dubbed "The Purple Wedding".

Joffrey's death was a delight for fans who loathed the character, but it would also kick off the season's major conflict, making for some excellent storytelling and acting. A large portion of the show's senior season revolved around Tyrion's downfall and betrayals through multiple trials, leading to his eventual escape.

Hardhome

Season 5, Episode 8

Reddit user Yoshe007 says "Hardhome", season 5's eighth episode "slayed me in the first watch". The episode would see Jon Snow (Kit Harington) coming face to face with both The Night King and The Army of the Dead. In addition to the intensity at Hardhome, this episode was overall solid.

Tyrion and Daenerys getting to know each other was endearing to see, as their families have been responsible for destruction on either side. The beginning of Cersei's imprisonment was also depicted, as was Theon (Alfie Allen) revealing to Sansa that her younger brothers were still alive.

Blackwater

Season 2, Episode 9

Season 2's penultimate installment was a visual splendor with the many explosions of neon green wildfire. Tyrion's (Peter Dinklage) leadership skills and courage were at the forefront, along with Joffrey being schooled. The episode not only had intense scenes between Sansa (Sophie Turner) and Cersei (Lena Headey), but also showed the close-to-dire lengths the Lannister mother would go to protect her children.

The Mountain And The Viper

Season 4, Episode 8

Season 4's epic "The Mountain and the Viper" would see a gory trial by combat between Prince Oberyn "The Red Viper" Martell (Pedro Pascal) and Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson). This Reddit user says the episode "gets my vote for best episode ever".

Defending Tyrion was not the party prince's only objective, as he wanted to avenge the deaths of his older sister Elia Martell and her children at the hands of The Mountain as well. Despite executing excellent fighting skills, Oberyn's ego led to his ambush by Gregor, resulting in one of Game of Thrones' saddest hero deaths.

The Rains Of Castamere

Season 3, Episode 9

Robb at The Red Wedding

Nearly ten years after first airing, "The Rains of Castamere" is a Game of Thrones episode that still upsets fans. Reddit user Wigglez436 says that the season 3 penultimate episode is "so bad but so good at the same time".

Notoriously dubbed "The Red Wedding" for being one of the most brutal events in Westeros history, the episode showed the deaths of prominent House Stark members Catelyn, Robb, Talisa, and Grey Wind. What makes the episode even more devastating was Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) being unable to save her family.

The Winds Of Winter

Season 6, Episode 10

Season 6 followed up the fierce "Battle of the Bastards" with the explosive finale "The Winds of Winter". Reddit user CaveLupum thinks that "it's one of the greatest TV episodes I've ever seen".

In an instance where a GoT villain outsmarted a hero, Cersei had an ace up her sleeve by blowing up her enemies in the Sept of Baelor. One of the show's most visually stunning episodes highlighted by Ramin Djawadi's beautiful scores, this finale fuels hope and metamorphosis for so many character journeys, which was shown with a breathtaking final shot of Daenerys sailing to Westeros.
