While the series continues to concentrate on Spencer's difficult life off the field, the first two seasons showcased the talents of several football players on the show, many of who are main or recurring characters. These are the most skilled players on the show so far.

Frausto

When Spencer finally returns to play for the South Crenshaw High Chargers in Season 3, he is met by the unwelcoming new star player, Frausto (Noah Gray-Cabey). As a territorial alpha, Frausto is also prickly towards the team's new coach, Billy Baker (Taye Diggs).

While rarely seen playing on the field, the starting tailback's reputation precedes him as being a strong player and winning team leader who excels in areas that Spencer failed in the season prior. Unlike many of his teammates, Frausto is an excellent student-athlete who carries a 3.9 GPA.

After living with Corey James in Nevada for seven years, Darnell Hayes (Da'Vinchi) arrives in California and challenges Chris for the starting quarterback position on the Crenshaw Chargers. While his superb football career is not depicted in the present, Corey James (Chad L. Coleman) is a former football star whose promising career was cut short due to a life-threatening illness. However, his past greatness as a player is not only referenced several times throughout the show, it's also implied to be responsible for cultivating his son Spencer's natural ability.

Corey's football career began as a rival running back to Billy Baker when they played Pop Warner as children. Their contentious relationship continued into adulthood as coaches when James leads the Crenshaw Chargers and Baker leads the Beverly Hills Eagles.

Asher Adams

Even so, Billy imparts his football acumen to his son, Jordan, the Eagles' star quarterback. As a fellow Crenshaw and Beverly Hills player, Baker also relates to Spencer to helps guide him toward success.

Cameron

However, when competing against each other, Spencer often gets the best of Cam when covering him one on one. Despite the physical tools, Cam's poor catching ability and predictable route-running take him down a couple of pegs.

JJ Parker

As a diversified jack of all trades, JJ Parker (Hunter Clowdus) is a skilled football player on the Beverly Hills Eagles who can play multiple positions on both sides of the ball with equal effectiveness.

In addition to playing starting outside linebacker for the Eagles, Parker also serves as the team's backup quarterback and starting offensive tight end. As one of the team's leading captains, Parker is a physical force that rarely leaves the field.

Despite his immense talent as the team's star player and coach's son, Jordan feels threatened and becomes jealous when Spencer joins the team. However, they become close friends soon after. Unfortunately, Jordan becomes less interested in football as the series progresses and ends up marrying Simone (Geffri Maya) in Las Vegas.

Chris Jackson

Spencer and Chris kneel in All American

Although Spencer ultimately injures his former Crenshaw quarterback Chris Jackson (Spencer Moore II) when playing for the rival Beverly Hills High, Jackson proved to be a top-tier QB while on the field. He's a dual-threat who can beat defenders with his arm or his legs.

In addition to throwing bullets, bombs, screens, post patterns, and out routes with expert precision, many of which result in touchdowns scored by Spencer James, Chris used his masterful knowledge of Crenshaw's old playbook to help Spencer defeat Malibu as part of his new Beverly Hills team.

Spencer James

As the show's chief protagonist, Spencer James is by far the best football player on All American. Based on the true story of real-life NFL player Spencer Paysinger, Spencer's overall football acumen allowed him to change positions from star wide-receiver to standout defensive back upon transferring to Beverly Hills High.

Playing both offense and defense at the highest level is a sign of true football greatness. Beyond the positional flexibility, Spencer's size, speed, and ability to both catch the football and read offenses as a defender make him a great two-way player. By Season 3, Spencer is a Top 54 college prospect.
