Many powerful Flying-types can be caught in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and some can be a perfect fit for a team that covers all bases. These winged creatures are excellent for completing a team because of two of their resistances, namely Grass- and Fighting-type. Additionally, they are immune to Ground-type damage, which is very helpful as one of the most overused and effective moves — Earthquake. Therefore, having complete immunity to a certain type is advantageous on the battlefield.

A Flying-type is also an excellent option for trainers who lack protection against Spikes or Stealth Rock, with many acting as Defoggers. Some flying-type creatures are more effective than others in combat; however, they can all be quite helpful in unique ways. Trainers should consider significant stats and move differences between various Flying-types to ensure their selected Pokémon suit different battle styles. In the competitive environment, especially those who wish to optimize their team's capacity to defeat rivals in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet should keep a watch on which Flying-types are the best overall.

Dragonite

Ash sending Dragonite into battle

Although usage of this Generation I Pokémon has decreased over time, it was previously quite common in play in almost all Pokémon games. Dragonite, however, appears to be making a surprising resurgence in Scarlet and Violet. Dragonite is a pseudo-Legendary Dragon-/Flying-type, much like Salamence. However, unlike Salamence, it is immensely bulky due to its special ability, Multiscale. When Dragonite's HP is full, its ability reduces all move damage by half. Roost enables Dragonite to reach full HP quite frequently. Dragonite might not be a swift Dragon-/Flying-type in Scarlet and Violet, but it can deliver a powerful punch.

Corviknight

Only three vulnerabilities exist for the mighty Steel type: Fire, Fighting, and Ground. Two of them are covered by the Flying-type, leaving just Electric and Fire as possible attacks against Flying-/Steel-type Pokémon. Strong bulk and a diverse move set make Corviknight a viable fighting choice, and its bulk gives it the durability it needs to use Defog and Roost consistently. Corviknight also has the choice of Brave Bird, which deals incredible STAB damage, and U-turn, which enables it to escape after using Defog.

Salamence

Salamence has excellent stats all over, giving it high bulk and incredible offense. It also has a respectable base Speed. Second, both offensively and defensively, its typing is strong. Salamence in Scarlet and Violet has more than enough options to pick from, with numerous possible move sets thanks to moves like Dragon Dance, Outage, Earthquake, Dual Wingbeat, Hurricane, Roost, and Defog. In addition, it has the skill Moxie, which, combined with Dragon Dance, can raise its Attack stat.

Noivern

Ash's Noivern spreads its wings in the Pokémon anime.

The outstanding base speed of Noivern at 123 makes it faster than Pokémon like Gengar, who are renowned for being swift. Noivern is primarily a Special Attacker who can deal damage with moves like Hurricane and Draco Meteor. Additionally, it receives Roost and Taunt, which can be combined to stall while preventing opponents from positioning themselves. Additionally, as was already discussed, this Flying-/Dragon-type in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has exceptional Speed, which offers it the advantage it needs to benefit from this tactic.
