Whether it a football team coming together in the midst of desegregation or a Jamaican bobsled team overcoming expectations, Disney and their filmmakers have shared true awesome stories that show the power sports have in bringing people together in the heat of competition. Both audiences and critics have praised these films for their enthralling stories and heartwarming spirits. Here are the 10 best Disney sports movies, according to Rotten Tomatoes.

The Greatest Game Ever Played-63%

The Greatest Game Ever Played is directed by Bill Paxton and tells the story of Francis Ouimet (Shia LaBeouf) who fought class prejudice to eventually win the U.S. Open in golf in 1913.

While a 63% is slightly enough to make the film fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, many critics felt the film followed almost every cliche that can be found in true story sports films. Still, the charming cast and heartwarming story were able to win over enough critics to get this film a positive score.

Million Dollar Arm-65%

Million Dollar Arm stars Jon Hamm as J.B. Bernstein, a sports agent struggling to save his career. To find the next star pitcher for the major leagues, he heads to India and finds two young cricket players who throw powerful pitches but know very little about baseball. J.B. tries to adjust them to American life and turn them into professional pitchers.

Critics were able to coast off of the charm from Jon Hamm and the other cast members but found that Million Dollar Arm brought nothing new to the Disney sports movie formula.

Invincible-72%

A dream of many would be to be able to try out for their favorite team. This is the idea of the inspiring true story in Invincible. Lifelong Philadelphia Eagles fan Vince Papale (Mark Wahlberg) gets the chance to try out for the Eagles and becomes the oldest rookie to join an NFL team who never played in college.

It's a Disney sports film and there are still some critics who get tired of the cheesy, heartwarming Disney formula. However, its uplifting and profound message won many over, along with its enthusiasm for football.

Remember The Titans-73%

Football team gathered around Denzel Washington in Remember the Titans

Remember the Titans centers around a high school in Virginia where football means everything. When an all-white school integrates with an all-black school, the team must unite and overcome their prejudices in order to rally as a team. In addition to its great football moments, Remember the Titans has profound social commentary not seen in many Disney movies.

A great lead performance from Denzel Washington helps bridge the gap between the players, especially his memorable speech at Gettysburg. It's surprising the score is 73% as this film is looked upon fondly, but some critics still can't get past a predictable formula.

Cool Runnings-76%

Cool Runnings features one of the most unique stories in all of sport. Four Jamaican bobsledders have aspirations to compete in the winter Olympics, despite having never seen snow. With the help of former champion, Irving "Irv" Blitzer (John Candy), the Jamaican team sets out to become Olympic ready and compete for glory.

Cool Runnings does follow the sports movie formula, but the comedy in the film elevated it for many critics above the average Disney sports film. Hilarious performances from Candy and the four bobsledders makes this movie a cool time.

Safety-79%

The Clemson Tigers football team in Disney's Safety

This is the latest Disney sports film and is easily one of the best Disney+ originals. Safety is about Ray McElrathbey, a freshman football player at Clemson University. While trying to balance school and football, he also takes on the responsibility of taking care of his little brother after a series of unfortunate circumstances.

With the help of his team and the Clemson community, Ray finds a way to balance everything and becomes an inspiration. While being criticized for being overly sentimental, Safety has a strong message of the value of family and brotherhood that makes it an undeniable crowdpleaser.

McFarland, USA-81%

Kevin Costner as the coach in Disney's McFarland USA

McFarland USA stars Kevin Costner as Jim White, a track coach at a predominantly Latino high school in California. He and his runners don't have much in common but bond as a team through the value of family, strong work ethic, and commitment to one another.

While, of course, some critics found fault with the film's predictability, the majority of critics found the story enthralling, citing Costner's strong performance and the young cast. The relationship of the players works very well, along with the bond they build with the coach. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Miracle-81%

Many of Disney's sports movies tell more obscure stories many hadn't heard about it. Miracle, however, chronicles one of the biggest moments in all of American sports and Winter Olympics history.

Coach Herb Brooks (Kurt Russell) assembles a hockey team of young college all-stars who overcome incredible odds to defeat the Soviet Union hockey team in the 1980 Winter Olympics. Critics praised Russell's performance and gave Miracle credit for capturing the feeling that many Americans felt when the U.S. hockey team pulled off this miraculous upset.

The Rookie-84%

In The Rookie, coach Jim Morris (Dennis Quaid) is given a second chance at fulfilling his dream after an opportunity arises which would give him an opportunity to try out for major league baseball.

Many critics found The Rookie refreshing as many praised it for its understated approach to this true story. It has great performances and never feels emotionally manipulative like some of the other Disney sports feature films. Some criticized it for being a tad too long, but it's mostly a heartwarming family film that baseball fans will also enjoy.

Queen Of Katwe-94%

Madina Nalwanga and David Oyelowo talking in Queen of Katwe (2016)

Queen of Katwe is the most underrated Disney sports film as it isn't as popular as the others, but it has the highest critical score by a large margin. It's based on the remarkable true story of Phiona (Madina Nalwanga), who grew up in the slums of Katwe in Kampala, Uganda.

When she meets Robert Katende (David Oyelowo), a missionary who teaches kids chess, she discovers success through her new chess skills and finds a chance to escape a life of poverty. With great performances from Nalwanga, Oyelowo, and Lupita Nyong'o, critics loved this film, finding themselves invested in the culture and emotional threads of the film, despite its cliches.
