Disney has created many different princesses over the years, with the company being well-known for creating excellent female characters. They all have very different stories and personalities, making them feel unique, and people will often argue over which character is the best.

Both Princess Jasmine (Aladdin), and Belle (Beauty and the Beast), are often two that come up in that conversation. They're both key parts of two of Disney's greatest ever movies, princess or not, and they are both well developed throughout the films.

However, even though they're both amazing characters in their own rights, the real question is which of the pair is better? Within this list, we will give five reasons why it is Jasmine, and five reasons why it is Belle.

Jasmine: Strong Character

Something that is great about Jasmine is the fact that she is an incredibly strong character. While she might be born into royalty, with all of the benefits that come with that, she doesn't just rely upon it as many people would, which is how she ends up bumping into Aladdin in the first place.

She heads out of the palace on her own accord looking for adventure and a new sense of purpose. Disney makes sure that she is a well-defined character and not just reliant upon a prince, hence why she turns away all of the suitors that her father tries to set her up with.

Belle: Grows Into Being A Princess

While Jasmine is born into royalty and is a princess from the moment we meet her in the movie, the same cannot be said for Belle. She starts off quite poor in the local village, and while she clearly wants more from her life, being a princess isn't even a possibility in her mind.

That's what makes her character so exciting as we get to see her journey from being just a book reading village girl to becoming a princess. It's a lot of fun to see the progression throughout the film and it is more exciting to see the rise of her character.

Jasmine: Rajah

Jasmine has a pet tiger, you can't really argue with that, can you? While most Disney princesses have different characters who help them out and stand by their side (Belle included), none of them are as cool as Rajah, who is a legitimate tiger.

The big cat feels out anyone who comes near Jasmine, and won't allow them to get close to the princess. It's a great addition to Jasmine's character that creates both funny and emotional moments as Rajah always wants what is best for her.

Belle: Book Smart

One of Belle's greatest qualities is her intelligence. While many of the other Disney princesses may also be smart, we don't really get to see that side of them, including Jasmine. However, when it comes to Belle it is a major part of her character that she is smart and enjoys reading.

Picking up books is Belle's biggest hobby and it's certainly a great one to have. It's a great thing to encourage other young girls watching the film, making Belle feel like a more well-rounded character who is independent and headstrong.

Jasmine: A Whole New World

Even though Jasmine isn't the one who finds the magic carpet, the ride she shares with Aladdin (Prince Ali) is one of the most iconic moments in Disney history. "A Whole New World" is one of the greatest Disney songs of all time, and is one that is known by millions of people.

Even those who aren't major Disney fans are aware of this great song, and it really is Jasmine's big number in the film. It's the romantic point that the connection between them is clear as you realize just how fantastic of a character Jasmine truly is.

Belle: Tale As Old As Time

While Jasmine might get to float around on a magic carpet, Belle also gets an incredibly romantic moment with her prince in Beauty and the Beast. Their time comes when they have a dance in the hall while Mrs. Potts sings the iconic "Tale As Old As Time."

It's a beautiful scene from the movie and is one of the greatest in any Disney film. It's a moment where Belle really gets to showcase her beauty with the classic yellow dress, dancing around with the Beast to have her true princess moment.

Jasmine: She's Funnier

Princess Jasmine

While neither Belle or Jasmine is the funniest Disney princess in history, if you are going to compare the two of them there's no doubt that Jasmine is the funnier of the two. Her interactions with all the different characters such as the magic carpet, the Genie, and even Aladdin himself lead to some hilarious moments.

The funny moments that she has helps make Jasmine a more interesting character to watch throughout Aladdin and helps her be one of the most memorable Disney princesses of all time. Not many of the princesses get the chance to be funny in their movies, so this is a welcome change in that regard.

Belle: She's The Main Character

Even though Jasmine is an important character in Aladdin, that movie is all about him and his rags to riches journey with the help of the Genie. Jasmine is obviously the love interest and does have a significant role, but she's certainly not the lead.

On the other hand, Belle is undoubtedly the main character of Beauty and the Beast, with the entire film being centered around her. That's what makes her the better princess out of the two because she feels more important to her film, and she is showcased more throughout.

Jasmine: Fights For Herself

Even though princesses typically need saving, and that does happen to Jasmine as well within Aladdin, she is still more than prepared to fight for herself. Unlike many of the Disney princesses, Jasmine has no problems in telling Jafar exactly what she thinks of him.

She knows exactly how to deal with him as a villain, knowing when she needs to pretend to be romantic in order to trick him, and when to unload with a verbal assault on the sorcerer. It helps her develop as a character which is why she is so beloved by fans.

Belle: Not A Stereotypical Love

One of the main reasons that Belle is the greatest princesses is that unlike most of the other Disney princesses, she doesn't go down the same love storyline. Most of the princesses, Jasmine included, fall in love with handsome men who look like a stereotypical prince.

For Belle, that is very different. While the human version of the Beast that she ends up with is also a very handsome man, the fact is that the person she falls in love with is a Beast. He is rugged and not a typical prince, proving that Belle is more concerned about who a person is deep down.
