The epic story of Lois Lane and Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman has been told countless times on screen from television shows to movie franchises. Defined as one of DC Comics’ ultimate power couples, one of the most popular portrayals of the two icons was on Smallville. It wasn’t until Season 4 when Lois (Erica Durance) would enter Clark’s life as she stayed with the show until the very end.

Smallville took its time to build up the epic love that fans around the world have followed in comics for years and years. When the Superman prequel got to its later seasons, Clark and Lois finally brought that iconic relationship to life. It’s time to go through some of Lois and Clark’s – or Clois, as the fandom calls it – best moments in on Smallville.

10. First Meeting

Some first meetings begin casually, but in Smallville, it starts with a bang. That was the case for Lois and Clark when she first arrived in Smallville while investigating the murder of her cousin. But when a bolt of lightning almost hits her, Lois drives right into a cornfield where she eventually finds a naked and memoryless Clark. Now operating as Kal-El under Jor-El’s brainwashing, their first encounter was simply hilarious. Clark eventually gets his memory back as he begins to befriend her which was just beginning of their long journey together.

9. First Super-Call

Season 8 was the beginning of leaving the farm behind bit by bit as Clark began to create a life in Metropolis, both as a reporter and mystery superhero. Throughout Season 8, Clark, dubbed the Red-Blue Blur, begins to form a working relationship with Lois in a relatively clever way. Having to stick to the shadows, the Blur begins calling Lois at a special phone booth that became their own little thing.

This started in the 19th episode of that season, titled “Stiletto,” and was a different take on the Clark/Lois/Superman triangle. Even though he wasn’t ready to tell Lois his secret, Clark still wanted to make sure how much he adores and appreciate the good work Lois did.

8. First Official Kiss

Even though Clark and Lois had shared a kiss or two prior to the Season 9 episode “Crossfire,” those don’t actually count. The first time Lois kissed Clark, he was disguised as Green Arrow and the second they kissed, Clark was on Red Kryptonite. It isn’t until “Crossfire” when they knowingly, without any Red Kryptonite or green hoods, share a kiss. To us, that is their first official kiss and it was an amazing one.

7. Game-Changing Kiss

The Season 9 finale “Salvation” was a game-changer for a number of reasons. Clark was getting ready to take on Zod (Callum Blue) by exiling all of the Kryptonians, including him and Zod, off Earth. But Lois and Clark, as the Blur, share one big moment in all the craziness. Before taking the Book of Rao back, Clark pulls Lois into him and kisses her before speeding off. This is where Lois realizes that Clark and the Blur are the one and the same. Talk about the definition of epic kisses!

6. The Proposal

It’s safe to say that the final season of Smallville was the best year for the Clark and Lois romance. A testament of that is in the 11th episode titled “Icarus,” as Clark is ready to take the next step with Lois and decides to propose to her by their phone booth. Clark fills the streets by dropping white rose petals to distract Lois before she finds him behind her popping the question. She immediately says yes, making this proposal one of the best moments in the series.

5. An (Attempted) Wedding

As wonderful as the proposal was between Lois and Clark, we have to talk about the wedding. Even though we didn’t get to see them get married, thanks to a Darkseid influenced Oliver Queen (Justin Hartley,) what we got before the crash was breathtaking. Even though the wedding is interrupted, the beginning of it was a big pay-off. After their struggles, they finally make it down the aisle and we do hear their vows throughout the finale. But most of the ceremony was unforgettable, to say the least.

4. Clark Meeting Future Lois

In Season 10, it’s a struggle for Clark as he has to overcome his final trial before he can become Superman. Questioning his future, Clark literally gets his answers in the 200th episode titled “Homecoming.” When he accidentally travels to 2017, he finds out that everything is going to work out in more ways than one. This is where Lois comes in as our Clark from 2010 witnesses her future version.

Not only are they working together as two of the Daily Planet’s top reporters, but they’re in a committed relationship where Lois now knows Clark’s big secret. Throughout most of “Homecoming,” Clark gets a first taste at what life with Lois knowing his secret is like. This is one of the major elements that allow Clark to get optimistic about his future.

3. Dropping the L-Word

After Clark’s adventures in the future, he is taken back to the present where he decides to slowly begin solving things with Lois. Later that night, Lois goes to the Kent Farm and finds Clark waiting for her in the barn where he has set the mood for the dance they didn’t get to have at the homecoming. Clark gets her to join him for a dance, playing to “Baby I Need You,” as they finally say their “I love you” to one another. At this point, Lois knows Clark’s secret but hasn’t told him that she knows and tries to tell him.

But Clark, kindly, asks her to leave tomorrow for tomorrow so they can enjoy this moment together. As their sweet dance continues, something unforgettable happens as Clark begins floating in the air, just by a couple of inches. Even though they never seemed to notice what was happening, it was the perfect ending for the 200th episode and a beautiful moment between the two.

2. Clark Tells Lois the Truth

Following the 200th episode, the fifth episode “Isis” was a roller coaster for Clark and Lois after she gets possessed by the spirit of Isis. But to follow “Homecoming,” Clark wanted to get back with Lois sooner rather than later and so did she, before she got possessed. However, after all the madness comes to an end, the two reporters get together where it finally happens. Despite having second thoughts on telling Lois, after the danger she was put through in that episode, Clark goes for it. Clark speaks from his heart about how terrified he has been on letting people see the real him.

But afraid of losing Lois even more by not telling her, Clark tells her that he’ll take that leap of faith with her if she is willing to do it as well. Clark then utters the words viewers had been waiting for him to say to Lois: “I’m the Blur.” Filled with joy, Lois jumps into Clark’s arms and kisses him while making it clear that she already knew. Clark’s reaction is priceless, but perfect as that wraps the episode up. Clark has had plenty of moments when he has told people in his life who he really is, but nothing beats his proper reveal to Lois.

1. Their Final Scene

The two-hour series finale of Smallville was an emotional roller coaster from Clark becoming Superman to the final minutes that is set in the future. In fact, they’re on their latest attempt to get married, showing that their crazy lives made it impossible. It’s a perfect ending for the two of them as fans of the Superman mythos get to see these two iconic characters exactly where they are supposed to be at.
