Only a handful of characters are initially available to play as in MultiVersus, so it's important to unlock the best characters first depending on a preferred playstyle. There are five different character classes in MultiVersus, namely Bruiser, Tank, Support, Assassin, and Mage. Each of these classes has varying strengths and weaknesses, so players should become familiar with each type before unlocking their first character.

Players can unlock all characters in MultiVersus by playing through the game, but the currencies to unlock the first couple of characters are easier to obtain at the beginning of the game. Additionally, all of these characters can be unlocked for free via an in-game currency, and Wonder Woman can be unlocked by completing the tutorial. Although MultiVersus is a free-to-play game, players can also unlock characters by spending money on premium currency.

Depending on which character players are looking to unlock, they can either be acquired by spending Gold, Gleamium, or a character ticket on them. Gold is the in-game currency that is earned by playing through matches, other than custom matches, and by completing missions and daily challenges. Players can get Gleamium in MultiVersus by spending real money, as it is the free-to-play game's premium currency. Lastly, character tickets are earned by purchasing one of the Founder's Packs, and only one ticket is needed to unlock any character.

Batman Is A Great MultiVersus Bruiser To Unlock First

How to Unlock Batman in MultiVersus

Batman is a Bruiser-type fighter in MultiVersus and is one of the best characters to unlock first because of his special combo attacks. His neutral special attack is called Bat-Bomb, wherein Batman deploys a bomb that can attach itself to an enemy that will explode after a few moments to send the opponent into the air. This can be followed up by the Bat-Grapple, Batman's side special attack that deploys the cape crusader's grappling hook to bring him closer to an enemy or move around the arena.

Another reason to unlock Batman early in MultiVersus is for his Smoke Bomb special attack, which is great for co-op battles. The Smoke Bomb grants a buff to the invisibility and invulnerability of Batman and his allies while simultaneously slowing down enemies. Batman can also use his Rising Bat up special to charge an uppercut attack that sends enemies into the air as well. Batman is perfect for those who like to mix up their attacks to make themselves unpredictable, and he excels in isolating opponents and keeping their allies away from double-teaming teammates.

Unlock Tom & Jerry First In MultiVersus For A Unique Mage

MultiVersus Tom + Jerry character guide

Despite being two separate icons, Tom and Jerry are a single character in MultiVersus. The pair specialize in ranged damage, particularly by having Tom use Jerry as a projectile. Tom's neutral special sees the cat use Jerry as ammunition for his slingshot, dealing a good amount of damage upon a hit. MultiVersus enhances Tom and Jerry's attack after this, as Tom flings a tennis ball to Jerry, Jerry sends it back, and Tom can use his normal attack to send the tennis ball back at an enemy. However, if Jerry is damaged or otherwise unavailable, the initial attack will see Tom fling corks at enemies instead.

The dynamic cat and mouse duo can also use other ranged attacks where Tom flings Jerry via a fishing pole, ties him to a rocket, or lays down a mouse trap. During the fishing pole attack, Tom can reel Jerry back in to deal additional damage. If Jerry is unavailable during the rocket attack, Tom will use a joystick to send the rocket toward Jerry's location. Lastly, after laying down the mouse trap, an ally or Tom that is holding Jerry in MultiVersus can also place down some cheese to deal more damage to enemies who trigger the trap.

Arya Stark Is The Best Assassin To Unlock In MultiVersus

MultiVersus Arya Stark character guide

Arya Stark is an Assassin class character in MultiVersus and has access to some of the best combo attacks in the game. Using her sword in all of her attacks, Arya specializes in picking apart the weaknesses of enemies with precision and flurry. Her neutral special attack allows Arya to steal the face of her opponent, and by pressing the input again players can stun their opponent while the Game of Thrones character taunts them. Additionally, Arya also has a throwing knife projectile that can be used as her side special attack. Afterward, Ayra can dash to the knife's location to deal damage to any enemy in her way, and, while the move needs a cooldown, she'll perform a spinning stab forward move that breaks armor.

Those who want to unlock Arya Stark first in MultiVersus should familiarize themselves with Finn the Human, another fighter in the Assassin class. While Assassin and Bruiser classes are melee-heavy, the style in which they play is distinct. For example, Arya's up special attack sees her perform an overhead knife swipe that is immediately followed up by a dash in the same direction in which the enemy was launched. Arya is also a great character to unlock first for co-op battles because her down special sees her dash to a nearby ally and apply a buff to herself and the ally, allowing them to break an enemy's armor.

Bugs Bunny Is The Best MultiVersus Mage Fighter To Unlock

Bugs Bunny is MultiVersus' best Mage.

Like Tom and Jerry, Bugs Bunny is another character that specializes in range damage by being part of the Mage class. One of the reasons why players should unlock Bugs Bunny first in MultiVersus is because the character's attacks allow for control over an arena when used properly. For example, Bugs' neutral special attack sees the Looney Toons rabbit drop a safe from the sky that damages any opponent it lands on, but it can also be set flying towards an opponent after it lands. Bugs Bunny also has access to a couple of different rocket attacks, and a move that can stun enemies by using side special. Bugs' down special move sees him dig underground with invulnerability, and reemerge to deal damage.

Because Bugs is an effective fighter to use for range attacks, players who find themselves teaming up with melee-focused fighters may want to unlock him first. He compliments the playstyle of all other fighters, other than another ranged character. For example, Bugs Bunny is an excellent complement to allies who use the Looney Toons character Taz in MultiVersus, as this particular character falls short on his ranged capabilities.
