In the galaxy far, far away if you need a job done or a person found - no matter how grim, seemingly impossible, or deadly - then you call a bounty hunter. Acting outside the bounds of the law, bounty hunters act as judge, jury, and in some cases, executioner. Bounty hunters are usually considered low-life scum, concentrated on the Outer Rim or other remote locations, but there are a number of people who join their ranks because they are seeking a better life or adventure.

For the purpose of this list, all of the bounty hunters listed are from the Star Wars canon only. Unless otherwise specified, the events, attributes, and abilities discussed are canon. The order of the bounty hunters takes into account their strengths, weaknesses, and the general success (or failure) of their missions. No bounty hunters from the upcoming Rogue One were included.

In ascending order, here are the 15 Greatest Bounty Hunters in the Star Wars Universe:

15. IG-88

IG-88 stands in the lineup of bounty hunters aboard the Executor in The Empire Strikes Back

The IG-series of assassin droids were produced by Holowan Laboratories; one such droid was IG-88, who turned to bounty hunting during the reign of the Galactic Empire. Droids played a deadly part in the Clone Wars, and the fear of droids continued for years later, making IG-88 particularly menacing.

IG-88 was one of the infamous bounty hunters who Darth Vader brought to his Executor Star Destroyer after the Battle of Hoth, alongside Zuckuss, 4-LOM, Bossk, Dengar, and Boba Fett. Vader put a bounty on Han Solo and the Millennium Falcon.

In Star Wars Legends, IG-88 had multiple droid bodies. The fate of one of these bodies was inspired by the destroyed IG-model droid featured in the background when Chewbacca finds the pieces of C-3PO on Cloud City. It was believed that IG-88 knew that the best way to find Han Solo was actually to track Boba Fett - however, Boba Fett got the drop on the droid, killing him.

14. Zam Wesell

Zam Wesell aiming a rifle in Attack of the Clones

Zam Wesell was a bounty hunter hired by Jango Fett to kill Senator Padmé Amidala. Like fellow bounty hunter Cato Parasitti, Zam Wesell was a Clawdite, a reptilian changeling species from the planet Zolan that was able to take on the appearance of other people.

Zam Wesell attempted to kill Padmé twice, first by planting an explosive on her ship. The blast did not kill the Senator, but did kill her body double and many others. Wesell's next attempt to kill Padmé used deadly and poisonous insects called Kouhuns. However, this attempt was foiled by Anakin Skywalker, who along with Obi-Wan Kenobi, chased down and caught Zam Wesell. Jango Fett killed Zam Wesell with a poison dart rather than allow her to reveal his identity.

While Zam Wesell was not successfuly in The Attack of the Clones (2002), it is assumed that Jango Fett chose her for this mission because of her previous accomplishments. Additionally, she utilized a wide array of creative methods in order to get the job done, and arguably she would not have been stopped or caught if it had not been for the two Jedi Knights.

13. Bazine Netal

Bazine Netal in Star Wars The Force Awakens

Bazine Netal is practically only a cameo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), but in her brief appearance, she changes the course of the plot. She alerts the First Order to BB-8's presence at Maz Kanata's Castle, transforming the safe haven into a war zone.

However, The Force Awakens doesn't illustrate the range of Bazine Netal's abilities. Bazine Netal's backstory was expanded in the short story "The Perfect Weapon", which was used to promote The Force Awakens in the month before the film was released. From a young age, she was raised to be ruthless; she was an orphan, taken from an orphanage by Delphi Kloda and raised in a combat school where she learned many forms of combat. She is self-reliant, discerning, and resourceful - but "The Perfect Weapon" also proves that she is, above all, deadly. The story ends with her killing Kloda, the man who raised her, after learning that he betrayed her.

12. C-21 Highsinger

C-21 Highsinger in Star Wars The Clone Wars

C-21 Highsinger is a heavily modified droid that worked as a bounty hunter alongside a young Boba Fett during the Clone Wars. Its modifications include a blaster built into his wrist and enhanced servomotors and joints that allow C-21 Highsinger to perform martial arts and other complex maneuvers. And at 2.25 meters (or approximately 7 feet and 4.5 inches), he stands menacingly over enemies, and he is able to become a giant turret on command.

C-21 Highsinger often works in a group, working alongside other bounty hunters like Boba Fett, Dengar, Latts Razzi, and Asajj Ventress. He went with Fett on missions to both the planets Quarzite and Serenno; both missions did not go as intended, but in the first, C-21 Highsinger was still rewarded for his bounty (even though the "cargo" was replaced by Asajj Ventress). In the second mission, C-21 Highsinger was part of a successful diversion, but eventually ran away when confronted by Quinlan Vos.

11. Sugi

Sugi in Star Wars The Clone Wars

Sugi is a Zabrak, the same race as Sith Apprentice Darth Maul. During the Clone Wars, she worked as bounty hunter, and fought alongside Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Ahsoka Tano on the planet Felucia. Sugi, along with the bounty hunters Embo, Rumi Paramita, and Seripas, was hired to protect a village from Hondo Ohnaka and his pirate crew. She later assisted General Tarfful in rescuing prisoners on the moon Wasskah and fought with Darth Maul when the Shadow Collective attacked the Hutts on the planet Nal Hutta. As a non-Force user, it's not surprising that Sugi was no match for Darth Maul, but she did manage to escape with her life.

While many bounty hunters are cut-throat and willing to sell out even a friend or ally for a measly reward, Sugi is a woman of honor. When Hondo Ohnaka offered her a larger reward to abandon the town on Felucia, Sugi refused.

10. Dengar

Dengar dodges lazer fire in Star Wars Battlefront II

Dengar is one of the many bounty hunters who appears with Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back (1980). He is invited to the Executor Star Destroyer by Vader in order to capture Han Solo and the Millennium Falcon. Dengar's career as a bounty hunter began during the Clone Wars, and he continued his work as a bounty hunter for years after. Dengar worked with C-21 Highsinger, Asajj Ventress, Boba Fett and others to transport valuable and secret cargo; the cargo turned out to be a child bride, and Ventress freed the girl and replaced her with a bound and gagged Boba Fett. The "cargo" was delivered, and Dengar received his part of the cut.

In contrast to many other bounty hunters who use their wiles, Dengar is blunt, forward, and often violent. He is skilled in hand-to-hand combat, and is often armed with both his signature DLT-19 heavy blaster rifle and grenades.

9. Bossk

Bossk in Star Wars

Bossk is an intimidating Trandoshan bounty hunter, known for hunting down and killing Wookiees (known enemies of the Trandoshans). While his Relby-v10 mortar gun is known to pack a powerful punch, Bossk is also a ruthless hand-to-hand fighter who defeated both Borbig Drob and Warjak in an arena fight on the planet Lothal. Bossk has taken a number of jobs and had a number of allies over the years as he travelled the galaxy in his YV-666 light freighter, the Hound's Tooth.

Bossk has a close relationship with the bounty hunter Boba Fett, helping to raise Fett and train him as a bounty hunter along with Aurra Sing. When Bossk tried to help Fett avenge the death of Jango Fett by killing Mace Windu, the pair ended up in prison. Even there, Bossk protected and encouraged Boba Fett. Bossk also went on to be a member of the Bounty Hunters' Guild, which completed sanctioned bounties of the Galactic Empire.

8. Jas Emari

Star Wars Aftermath Book Cover

Jas Emari is the bounty hunter who appears in the Star Wars canon novels Aftermath and Aftermath: Life Debt. She is the niece of the bounty hunter Sugi, who influenced her decision to run away and become a bounty hunter. While Jas Emari had been hired to kill Princess Leia during the Battle of Endor, she chose to switch sides and work for the New Republic after seeing the Rebels' success against the Galactic Empire. In the years following Endor, Jas Emari made great contributions to the fight against the Empire. Working with Sinjir Rath Velus and Temmin and Nora Wexley, Jas Emari helped to capture high-profile Imperial officials and free Rebel pilot Wedge Antilles from enemy hands.

Jas Emari is adaptable and resourceful; she always has a plan, but is equally willing to revise that plan based on the information presented to her. Her signature weapon is a long-range sniper rifle.

7. Embo

Embo in Star Wars Clone Wars

Embo is a Kyuzo bounty hunter who worked alongside Sugi during the Clone Wars. He helped to defend the farming village on the planet Felucia from the pirate Hondo Ohsaka. While in that case he fought alongside the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, over the years he has also been their rival and clashed with the Jedi. He works for whoever offers the most money, including the Hutts, Asajj Ventress, and even Darth Sidious.

Rather than relying on technology, as many bounty hunters do, Embo uses simple, effective, and deadly measures. He is incredibly physically fit, able to run and fight at a level that could even rival Force users. His weapon of choice is a bowcaster, which could easily strike down and kill opponents. Embo's hat could also be used as a shield and a weapon. Embo has his own personal starship, the Guillotine, and has a fearsome looking pet anooba named Marrok.

6. Aurra Sing

Aurra Sing in Star Wars The Clone Wars

Aurra Sing is a bounty hunter who was active before and during the Clone Wars; her species is unknown, but she has a humanoid form with pale skin and cybernetic enhancements. While her first appearance was as an extra in The Phantom Menace (1999), she later appeared with a larger, speaking role in Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) television show. She was an associate of Jango Fett before his death, and took an interest in helping to raise and train his (then teenage) son, Boba Fett, as a bounty hunter.

Over the years, Aurra Sing has worked with a number of prominent bounty hunters and criminals, including her former lover Hondo Ohsaka and the bounty hunter Cad Bane. However, based on her behavior, it seems that she is loyal to no one, and is willing to turn on anyone if it is in her best interests. She is a cold-blooded killer, and shows no remorse for the people that she murders, whether they are a targeted hit, a bystander, or a former ally.

5. Jango Fett

Jango Fett battles Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars Attack of the Clones

Jango Fett's reputation as a bounty hunter was so impressive that Count Dooku recruited him to be the template for the clone troopers that were used by the Republic in the Clone Wars. Jango Fett was paid 20 million credits, in addition to a special request of having a clone made for himself (his "son," Boba Fett). He was known for sporting traditional Mandalorian armor and piloting the Slave I, a Firespray-31 patrol and attack craft; both his armor and his ship would later be inherited by his son, who followed in his footsteps to become an infamous bounty hunter.

In Attack of the Clones, Jango Fett is not successful in his assassination attempts of Senator Amidala, in part because he hires Zam Wesell as his intermediary. He did, however, manage to outmanuveur Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Slave I, and successfully captured Anakin Skywalker and Senator Amidala on the planet Geonosis.

4. Black Krrsantan

Boba Fett and Black Krrsantan in the Darth Vader Star Wars comic.

Black Krrsantan is a Wookiee bounty hunter who is frequently in the employ of the crime lord Jabba the Hutt. His reputation made him one of the most feared bounty hunters in the galaxy. He did not solely work for Jabba, however. He took a bounty from Darth Vader to find one of the Emperor's secret agents and learn what business the Emperor was keeping from Vader. Black Krrsantan was successful in his mission, bring the agent to Vader; the torture droid 0-0-0 proceeded to interrogate and kill the agent.

Black Krrsantan uses a bowcaster, but his sheer size and strength are one of his most deadly attributes. On one occasion, Black Krrsantan entered a gladiator-style pit fight on the planet Son-tuul, where Wookiees were forced to battle to the death. Black Krrsantan strangled one of the fighters to get a spot in the arena, and in his fight, beat his opponent to death.

3. Asajj Ventress & Quinlan Vos

Quinlan Vos and Asajj Ventress on the cover of Star Wars Dark Disciple

Asajj Ventress was the apprentice of the Sith Count Dooku; however, Darth Sidious feared that she was too powerful and asked Dooku to kill her to prove his loyalty to the Dark Lord of the Sith. After Dooku betrayed and attempted to murder Asajj Ventress, she went on the run and chose to work as a bounty hunter. During her times as a bounty hunter, she still used her Force abilities and lightsaber, which is seemingly distinctive among the criminal underbelly of cantinas and hideaways. She worked with notable bounty hunters, including Boba Fett, Dengar, and Bossk.

Meanwhile, Quinlan Vos, a Jedi on a mission to kill Count Dooku, also posed as a bounty hunter. While Quinlan Vos was "pretending" to be a bounty hunter in order to get build a relationship with Asajj Ventress (and learn about Dooku), he did work with her to complete bounties during that time. The pair used their strong connections to the Force, making them the deadliest team in the galaxy.

2. Boba Fett

Boba Fett in Return Of The Jedi

Boba Fett is, without a doubt, the most famous bounty hunter in the Star Wars universe. Fans were curious about the backstory of the mysterious bounty hunter who successfully tracked the Millennium Falcon and brought Han Solo to Jabba the Hutt in The Empire Strikes Back (1980). He became an icon in fan culture and the subject of many adventures in the Extended Universe that would eventually become Star Wars Legends. In Attack of the Clones (2002), it was revealed that he was the perfect clone copy of the bounty hunter Jango Fett, who raised Boba as his own son. After Jango Fett's death, Boba Fett followed in his footsteps to become a bounty hunter, learning from the likes of Aurra Sing, Cad Bane, and Bossk.

Eventually Boba Fett met his match when he took a tumble into the sarlacc pit on Tatooine. In the extended universe, Boba Fett survived that encounter, but it remains to be seen if he does in the new canon. Regardless, he has one of the most prolific careers of any bounty hunter in the Star Wars universe.

1. Cad Bane

Cade Bane Mentors Boba Fett

Cad Bane is a bounty hunter from the planet Duro who was active during the Clone Wars. His distinctive appearance - blue skin, red eyes, and large "cowboy" style hat - make him difficult to miss. Completing his "Wild West" look, he uses a signature pair of LL-30 blaster pistols, making him ready for a quick draw or a shoot-out.

Despite his quirky appearance, Cad Bane is no joke. The young Boba Fett looked up to him, and it's clear that Cad Bane had an influence on him. One of Cad Bane's many specialties was going toe-to-toe with Jedi Knights, making him a popular (and highly compensated) employee of the Hutts and even Darth Sidious. Cad Bane breathes through specialized tubes that stop him from being Force choked, and uses a pair of rocket boots that help him to keep up with even the fastest Force-wielding opponents. He outwits, outfights, and outruns the Jedi Knights and is a constant nemesis of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker.
