At this point in his decades-spanning career, Anthony Mackie seems to be one of the hardest-working actors in Hollywood. After debuting alongside Eminem in 2002's 8 Mile, Mackie has acted in dozens and dozens of feature-length movies. In 2019 alone, Mackie starred in six films. As if that's not enough, he's also a prolific TV actor.

Known for playing Falcon in the MCU, Mackie isn't afraid to dig his toes into tense thrillers, heady sci-fi, or socially-charged dramas. Mackie's best roles (according to IMDb) testify to the actor's ability to play both real-life historical figures and fantastical superheroes. At 42, Mackie clearly has no plans to stop anytime soon.

Under Bigelow's direction, this calamitous, yet often misrepresented, moment in history gets the depth and nuance it deserves.

Mackie plays Karl Greene, a Vietnam vet staying at the Algiers Motel, where a riot task force composed of police officers and National Guardsmen descended upon innocent occupants a few days after the 12th Street raid. To this day, the city of Detroit has yet to acknowledge the role its police department played in escalating the violence during that terrible summer.
