Tom Cruise has helped rejuvenate the world of action movies thanks to the blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick and the upcoming Mission: Impossible movie. Thankfully, fans of the genre can head over to Amazon to find their favorite thrill rides to watch from the comfort of their own home.
Some are all-time classics in the genre, some are a blast because they've been blended with comedy, and a handful are the biggest franchises in all of action. Regardless of the case, Amazon has them available on DVD, Blu-Ray, and 4K, making for a perfect at-home experience.
Bad Boys I & II
These days, Will Smith is as well-known as a movie star can be but it had to start somewhere. A big step forward for him came in 1995 when he led Bad Boys alongside Martin Lawrence. For any action fan, the movies in this franchise are a must.
While Smith and Lawrence bring the fun thanks to their chemistry, these films are directed by Michael Bay, who is famous for huge set pieces and pulse-pounding action. It makes for the ideal watch and the first two installments can be found in a Blu-Ray set together.
Atomic Blonde
There aren't many aspects more exciting in an action movie than a badass female assassin. That's part of what makes Atomic Blonde such an enjoyable watch, as Charlize Theron delivers one of her usual great performances as a spy.
Director David Leitch has a knack for action as seen in John Wick, Deadpool 2, and Hobbs & Shaw. His best work might be here though as Theron gets to be at the forefront of some intense sequences. Throw in a cool soundtrack and this is an easy winner available on Blu-Ray.
Kill Bill Vols. 1 & 2
Speaking of badass women in action movies, it's difficult to top Uma Thurman in Kill Bill. Quentin Tarantino's love letter to grindhouse cinema blends spaghetti westerns, blaxploitation, martial arts, and more into one story.
With a tale about a woman out for revenge against the people who tried to kill her being too long for one film, Tarantino split things into two equally-gripping volumes. They're now available in one set together so you can see the entire thing play out, including every graphic fight scene.
The Bourne Collection
Based on a series of novels about the titular character, the Bourne franchise quickly became one of the most prominent in the action genre. It helped turn Matt Damon into a bonafide box office star as the films have combined to gross over $1 billion.
The overlapping plot focuses on an amnesiac CIA agent trying to get his life back against a myriad of conspiracies. Each film is intense and is just as much of a thriller as it is an action flick. Four of the five films, which can all be bought together, star Damon while one features Jeremy Renner.
Seven Samurai
It's one of the most iconic action movies ever made and it still holds up several decades later. 1954's Seven Samurai is likely the greatest samurai film ever made and comes from acclaimed director Akira Kurosawa. It feels like something truly epic while also being dramatic and emotional.
Anyone who is a fan of samurai movies has to see this at least a few times because it's the most iconic in the genre. Seven Samurai is often named among the greatest films made, regardless of genre and the Criterion Collection Blu-Ray is a version you simply need to have.
The Rush Hour Trilogy
Action and comedy kind of go hand and hand. Many of the most memorable and most popular action films have at least some comedic elements included and when they're brought together in a major way, the results can be incredibly entertaining.
That's the case with Rush Hour which follows in the footsteps of Lethal Weapon by pairing two mismatched police officers and letting them have fun. Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker are among the best odd couples in film history and all three films in the franchise offer something for fans to appreciate.
Alita: Battle Angel
If James Cameron puts his name on something, it's bound to be worth checking out. He helped pen the screenplay for 2019's Alita: Battle Angel, which is based on the manga series Gunnm. It focuses on an amnesiac cyborg girl who tries to uncover the truth about her identity.
What made this film stand out was the animation style, which was groundbreaking and allowed the filmmakers to really go wild with the action sequences. The performances from the cast are great and Robert Rodriguez does some of his best work as a director. The 4K version looks spectacular as well.
The Daniel Craig James Bond Collection
The James Bond franchise is one of the biggest and longest-running in Hollywood history. While Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and the rest of the actors to portray Agent 007 have been great, Daniel Craig has a legitimate case for being the best.
The best way to see why is to simply watch Craig in action. There is now a 4K collection available that includes every adventure Craig had as Bond, including the most recent, No Time to Die, which marked a farewell for the actor in his most legendary role.
Mission: Impossible Collection
As mentioned, Tom Cruise is basically the quintessential action star. That has never been made more clear than in the Mission: Impossible franchise. Dating way back to 1996, Cruise has seemingly only upped the ante with each installment in this series.
Famous for doing his own stunts, Cruise has pulled off some absurd things in these movies from scaling the tallest building in the world to hanging out of a moving airplane to holding his breath for five minutes. Each of these is gripping to watch from your home theater.
John Wick
While Tom Cruise's films may still be the gold standard of action, the Keanu Reeves' led John Wick franchise is hot on its heels. Debuting in 2014, the film took the world by storm. Reeves has arguably never been better and each installment ups the ante.
The most recent entry, John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, doesn't let up for over two hours of non-stop action and violence. The trilogy on 4K includes some cool cover art and it's the perfect way to gear up for the upcoming fourth and fifth films.
