A fierce debate is raging over on social media as people choose their favorite 90s Disney renaissance movies, with films like Mulan, Aladdin, and The Lion King seemingly coming out on top. Disney has been at the top of the animation world ever since it released Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937. While every studio has its misfires and the Mouse House is no exception, much of the studio's projects are beloved by audiences everywhere. The 90s in particular was a successful period for Disney, as it produced classics like Beauty and the Beast and the aforementioned Lion King.

Fast forward to today, and Walt Disney Animation is on the verge of releasing its 60th feature, Encanto. Currently set for release in November, Encanto follows the magical Madrigal family and their one non-skilled member Maribel (Stephanie Beatriz). The mixture of fantasy and a potentially strong ensemble cast, as well as its soundtrack featuring songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda, suggests the movie will fit perfectly into the Disney fold.

Though Disney has an exciting release slate ahead, many online have spent their Wednesday debating which 90s movies are the best. The conversation began when Shaq #RIPKB24 shared a prompt online: Out of 9 classic Disney movies, which 3 would people keep? The movies included were The Little Mermaid (released at the tail end of 1989, but still counts), Beauty and the BeastAladdin, The Lion King, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Mulan, and Tarzan. Needless to say, this sent social media into a flurry, but based on the trending topics, it looks like the most popular picks were The Lion King, Aladdin, and Mulan. Most of the contenders got a fair amount of love, though if there is one movie that was by far the most popular, it was definitely Mulan. The 1998 film about a young woman who saves all of China by impersonating a male soldier has long been a pop culture mainstay, and it's no surprise that so many people have declared it as a Disney movie they would save. Hercules and Tarzan also had some strong supporters, with many specifically citing their soundtracks for reasons they were staying.

Of the general top three, it's rather interesting to consider that Mulan, Aladdin, and The Lion King have all been turned into Disney live-action movies within the past two years. Those updated versions had their fair share of supporters, but it's clear that the animated movies will always remain the most beloved in the hearts of fans. Disney has some strong choices when it comes to the best animated movie of the 90s, and it's probably safe to say that none of them are wrong ones.
