A new free indie game called Super Bernie World has released that gives players the opportunity to play as Bernie Sanders as he navigates a Super Mario Bros. inspired world. Players get to see the Vermont senator and presidential candidate rendered in perfect NES style as he travels through 11 different states. The game can be played for free through several web browsers.

Bernie Sanders has taken the world by storm over the last few years. He has become the most popular candidate with younger people in the United States. Obviously this has inspired a vast amount of pop culture references and jokes. Most recently it was revealed in Birds of Prey that Harley Quinn voted for Sanders in the 2016 presidential election, while SNL has also gotten in on the fun by casting celebrity lookalike Larry David as Sanders in several skits. Sanders has gotten many young people excited about voting, which can probably be attributed to his focus on putting young people's concerns first. Then again it could also be because Sanders is the only candidate with a Twitch channel.

As Sanders' pop culture presence has continued to grow, it was only a matter of time before he got his own video game. Brian Crecente posted a link on Twitter to Super Bernie World, which allows players to play as the popular candidate for free. The game was designed by Eniko, a Dutch video game designer who lives in America. Super Bernie World was created to help get people out to vote, and the game provides information and links to help voters understand Sanders' platforms. Players can even click a link to donate to the candidate's campaign.

Super Bernie World operates much in the same way that the original Super Mario Bros. does. The control scheme is practically identical and players much jump on the heads of enemies just like in a Mario game. There are several differences though. Players are tasked with taking down four Republicans that wait inside their castles for Sanders. The other large difference is that enemies resemble things like MAGA hats, Mitch McConnell, and white supremacists. The best thing of all is that anyone can play Super Bernie World for free here.

Politics and video games don't always mix very well. A lot of politicians don't look at the video game industry very favorably, like when Joe Biden called a video game developer a creep. Bernie Sanders is the perfect candidate to be given a video game though. He polls extremely well with young and educated people, and his ideas would benefit a vast majority of gamers in America. Maybe his campaign will get a little boost with Super Bernie World.
