Captain Glenn Shephard of the spin-off show Below Deck: Sailing Yacht is quickly becoming as popular as Captain Lee Rosbach from the original series. Though Sailing Yacht is only on its second season, viewers and crew members alike have already come to respect their highly skilled, but laid-back captain. Like Captain Lee, Captain Sandy, and Captain Howard, Captain Glenn has decades of experience and a true passion for yachting. So, how did he get his start and how long has he been sailing the Parsifal III?

Viewers were surprised to get a full second season of Below Deck: Sailing Yacht. During season eight, Captain Lee had to cut his 2020 charter season short due to COVID restrictions. Sailing Yacht, on the other hand, was able to film their season through careful planning and daily precautions that managed to keep Captain Glenn, his crew, the charter guests, and the film crew all safe during production. They got to enjoy traveling around the Croatian coast and viewers get to enjoy watching them.

Captain Glenn Shephard hails from Montreal, Canada (via TV Over Mind). His exact age isn’t known, but he’s been yachting for about 20 years now. He says he first got into yachting when he saw an ad seeking a deckhand. He thought it sounded too good to be true, but was delighted to discover it was a legit job and thoroughly enjoyed his time onboard. He has worked on yachts ever since, working his way up to Captain, a position he has held for over 10 years now.

Captain Glenn looking doubtful

Unlike Captain Lee, who celebrated his 45th wedding anniversary with his wife in 2020, Captain Glenn is single. He feels his constant traveling interferes with pursuing or developing long-term relationships. He has talked about having a brother and mother back in Canada, though he now lives in Spain. He has not leaned into his fame, filling his Instagram with pictures of beautiful scenery rather than himself. The luxury sailing yacht he captains, the Parsifal III, is also somewhat famous, having won the 2006 International Superyacht Design Award. It can be chartered for a mere 195,000 Euros per week (a little over 233,000 in US dollars). The world of luxury yachting involves a lot of money.

Despite Captain Glenn’s laid-back nature and decades of experience, Below Deck: Sailing Yacht still enjoys plenty of tension. Season two involves rough waters, infighting among the crew, and even a crash into the dock. Luckily, Captain Glenn seems ready to handle it all, even if he does lose his temper in the moment. Captain Glenn’s passion for sailing shines through all the drama and makes him popular with viewers, who hope he will return for many more seasons on the high seas.
