Below Deck Sailing Yacht star Captain Glenn Shephard is opening up about the difference in his hiring practices in comparison to those of the Bravo networks. With a successful spinoff under his belt, Captain Glenn is sharing some behind-the-scenes knowledge. Fans have always wondered what it was like to work with a crew he didn't necessarily hire.

Much like the original Below Deck, the newest spinoff follows charter guests who are looking for the trip of their lives. Captain Glenn became an overnight sensation thanks to his hands-off approach to running his boat. Unlike other franchise captains, Captain Glenn does not micromanage every detail of the charter and allows his crew to move freely around the vessel. While Glenn is usually the easy-going captain, he can put his foot down when the crew gets out of line when it is needed. Recently, viewers watched Tom Pearson get scolded for drinking too much and vomiting in the captain's quarters.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans have always wondered how it feels for a captain not to have full control when hiring the crew for the reality show. Captain Glenn recently shared that for him, it was a bit unorthodox to have Bravo producers take part in the hiring process, noting that the people who help out, do a "really good job." Captain Glenn told Screen Rant that he is "confident" Bravo knows what they are doing when it comes to casting the right people. According to Captain Glenn, the network has always sent him good people and hard workers who were highly qualified.

In reality, the captain of the vessel would have full control over the hiring and firing of any crew member. A captain would have to review the resumes and look into their possible experience in terms of longevity. Captains usually want to find a crew that has proven they can be stable, which includes not having moved around a lot. Thankfully, Captain Glenn seems satisfied with the people that Bravo has hired so far.

As for the new Below Deck Sailing Yacht season ahead, Captain Glenn is most looking forward to having fans see his crew rally together after having to deal with a few serious challenges. Naturally, Captain Glenn feels he has a really good crew this season and wants fans to see them all succeed. Even though he may not have hired them all, the captain is more than happy to have them on the ship.
