Since Below Deck Mediterranean season 6 came to an end, Mathew Shea is still hustling as a successful chef. Viewers saw Chef Mathew have multiple breakdowns throughout the season, including him leaving the vessel for short periods of time. Mathew blamed his first departure on anxiety and nerves, as well as a knee injury, but he was able to redeem himself thanks to his wonderful cooking skills. After the second time he quit, Captain Sandy claimed the next charter would be his last.

However, by the end of the charter, Sandy decided to give Mathew a second chance to prove he isn't as unreliable as she thinks he is. Mathew seemed to prove he is a reliable member of the team, and Sandy relayed to him how much she appreciated his hard work and great food. Despite some of Mathew's hiccups in the beginning, the crew grew to love and appreciate the chef for who he is.

After leaving the Lady Michelle last season, Mathew went on to continue his career as a private chef. According to Mathew's Instagram, he has been working around the clock to serve the most appealing meals. Shortly after Below Deck Med season 6 began to air, Mathew was working as a yacht chef in the Atlantic Ocean close to Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Some of his meals included a delicious charcuterie board, a vegan Panzanella salad, and even vegan blueberry pancakes.

Other than Mathew continuing to thrive as a yacht chef, he has been very open in the press about his time on the Bravo series. Back in July, Mathew spoke with Us Weekly about initially quitting the show after a drunken night out with the crew. He told the publication that, at that moment, he had to do what was best for his mental health. "I was in pain and having a full-blown panic attack, you know? And there were cameras in my face. It just [was] a lot. It was all a lot," Mathew confessed. Despite leaving the vessel for a second time, his crewmates were able to put that aside and still developed a close bond with the chef. In fact, Mathew still keeps in touch with everyone from his season, except second stew Lexi Wilson and Captain Sandy Yawn.

While Mathew and Sandy left the boat on good terms, the two began to butt heads once the season began airing. As the show was coming to an end, Mathew began to reveal his true feelings for Sandy. Not only did Mathew expose Sandy for calling him several inappropriate names, but he told her to her face that she was "one of the worst captains I’ve ever worked with in my 15 years on boats" at the reunion. Despite some of Mathew's ups and downs throughout Below Deck Mediterranean season 6, he had a great time filming the series. As for if he would do it again, fans will have to wait and see if he will return as the chef for season 7.
