Kate Chastain is giving her opinion on how Katie Flood handled the drama surrounding second stew Lexi Wilson, on Below Deck Med, and what she could have done differently. Kate appeared on Below Deck as the chief stew for seven seasons. She quickly became a fan favorite because of her blunt nature and quick wit. During her final season on the show, she found herself in a situation in which the crew was split between the guys and the girls. Some sexist behavior went down, and Kate found herself in a dangerous situation when bosun Ashton got very angry and started punching the windows of their car. She said during the reunion she doesn't know how far he would have gone had the other guys not been there to calm him down.

This season of Below Deck Med features new chief stew Katie. Everything seemed to be going well this season, until a crew night out went bad, when second stew Lexi got a little angry with everyone. She first got into it with deckhand Lloyd, then Mze, and then with Bosun Malia. It was unclear what the catalyst behind these different arguments were, but they got heated pretty quickly, with Lexi even shoving Mze at one point. At the end of all the arguing, Lexi took to her room and called her mom to let her know she was planning on quitting and leaving the boat because of what had happened. However, she later apologized to Malia, which Malia didn't seem to find sincere.

Kate Chastain is now opening up about how she thinks Katie handled it, and what she thinks she could have done differently. According to Us Weekly, Kate was pleased with the way Katie managed her second stew while she went on her rampage. The one mistake Kate was able to pinpoint was the fact that it was clear that Katie was scared of Lexi. She said she was confused why everyone on the boat tiptoes around Lexi and allows her bad behavior to continue. She says Lexi has somehow gotten everyone to continuously overlook her behavior and let her get away with things she should not be able to get away with. According to Kate, Lexi knows she can get away with it, because she Katie has shown she is afraid of her.

Kate pointed out that if she was Lexi's chief stew, she would not be approaching her with as much kindness as Katie is, and she definitely would not be as patient as Katie has been. Her belief is that Lexi is not cut out for yachting. Working on a yacht is a big commitment, and as Kate points out requires working long hours. The most difficult thing about yachting, however, is learning to both work and live with other people. Kate highlighted the fact that while on a yacht, you are living and working with people in really tight quarters, and you have to be aware of how your actions affect the others on board. This is clearly something Lexi has not yet mastered during this charter season. Besides her altercations with the deck crew, she also previously got into it with the chef.

Now that Lexi has gotten into an argument with nearly the entire crew, it is quite hard to imagine how she will continue to work the rest of the charter season. Not many people are left on her side of things, and it may not be long until she gets into another altercation. While discussing Below Deck Med, third stew Courtney said during an interview, Katie's biggest mistake as chief stew was not firing Lexi after the big blow up, which begs the question as to whether or not she is fired later in the season.
